Dinner Is Served

Welcome everybody. There is wine, cocktails, Dr. Pepper, pomegranate juice, cranberry juice, and assorted beverages at the end of the porch. Help yourself. This is a loose occasion. Feel free to come and go at will, not come, or come late and hang out for a bit. I'll be here and up all night. Enjoy.

BTW, this is the backyard, daylight view, where the lightning bugs will be.

I'm also putting the Victory!!! thread underneath so we can continue that magnificent discussion.

First of all. I'd like to toast our amazing pal Pluto, for giving us the strength and confidence we will need to continue without his overblown, spooky, nuclear annihilation fearing, conspiracy promoting, destructive power mongering, end of civilization belief, and progress to the inner search for true knowledge and understanding, the healing of longstanding emotional wounds, and the integration of positive and ngeative experience into a magnificent whole.

Second, I'd like to drink to our frienship.

*yawn* I'll take a cup of wine, please. That will send me right to sleep, but wake me if Myrtle Rae should happen to do cartwheels after tippling just a bit too much.

Enjoying Mongoose IPA as a reward for a day well spent, helped my husband set up for a small event in the neighborhood, then I came home and changed every light fixture on the upper floor...place looks so much better now AND we made $180, can't beat that for a sat. afternoon. Don't know how long I'll last,I'm so worn out, but glad to be here...

Years ago, in IL, when I worked at this deli, the counter maven was this lady named Marge. Nice enough woman, but very conventional in her worldview. She'd always get these migraines at work, and I , not really enjoying my life at work while Marge was in a bad mood, was more than happy to do some reiki and pressure point massage on the back of her neck to help ease things off. After a while, I got the sense that her problems were very much tension-related and suggested massage.
"Oh, no, I couldn't do that," she said.
"Why on earth not?" I asked.
"Because some woman would be touching me. I don't like the idea of that..."
"There are male massuses..."
"What! And have some strange man touch me....!"
I dropped it there, but I always felt sorry for her after.
It's incredible that people could have any anxiety about something that is so good and basic (and necessary) to the psyche as healing touch. But then, that's probably the Leo, I know I deserve it! :)

Oh, Pat, the invitation's on the front page a couple of days ago.

We're SO glad you're here. Though it's coming up on midnight here and these evening was SO stressful.

My mind just boggles but the Ren-Ren wasn't worrying about GETTING the massage. She was just afraid she would choose the wrong one. Or the wrong masseuse. I think that all comes under the heading of "making it worse than it has to be."

But we did have a long chat this evening while pruning the closet, and it turns out she doesn't like getting OLD. Doesn't want to give up her youth. Resents that she feels silly in her old goth get-ups. And doesn't feel attractive now.

And she's glaring at me and I'm thinking, YOU'RE TALKING TO ME about this? Me, who hasn't even looked in a mirror in 10 months? Whose hair is permanently in a ponytail?

26/8/06 9:52 PM

Well, she was a perfectionist, the perfect little midwestern housewife with 2.5 kids and a little dayjob for some extra clothes money. Oh dear, I missed the invite . . . I have to plead overwork, stress and exhaustion. And it's still not over. Brought work home with me this weekend, have a ton of editing to do tomorrow.

Yep, know what it means to be getting older and wanting to look good in my clothes. There is no substitute for good taste, which includes dressing for one's age. No woman over 50 should be wearing mini-skirts - Tina Turner excepted. Elegance and grace go a long way, and they don't have to be boring.

Juno, your friend Marge needed a PEDICURE. To hell with the color, I go for the foot massage (Pisces Moon especially digs it). Half the cost of a massage and has wonderful effects on neck and shoulders via foot reflexology, without having to take your clothes off.

But I hear you about the fear. BTDT, one of the great victories of my life that I overcame a strict Catholic upbringing. Definitely a Pluto subject.

As for the Catholic priests. . . well I could tell you some stories, all of which happened before Pluto entered Sagittarius and blew the lid off the debauchery.

The answer, though, is pretty simple. I got into all the goddess stuff going on in the late 80s. While I've since progressed to a more unified view of the Universe, that period was extremely helpful at bringing me back to owning my body and my sexuality. Not very original. But it was pretty powerful.

By the way, there are writings from ancient Sumer that people made cookies as offerings to the goddess :-)

Actually, Juno, chocolate originated in the Western Hemisphere. Mesoamerican cultures considered it a ritual drug. Before sending warriors into battle, they fed them a drink of chocolate and hot chilis!

Funny, I was telling one of my coworkers this the other day, and he told me that he read somewhere a theory that plants evolved to help humans, the idea being that if they were useful, they would survive because they would be protected and cultivated.

Can you imagine that CHOCOLATE EVOLVED JUST FOR US??

What a concept!

I think that in the plant kingdom is every antidote for man's sicknesses. They are in ways more evolved I think. Same with animals. I think they keep us from loneliness and total alienation.

In my experience, Virgos tend to find chocolate too yang -- or maybe it's the fat content, don't know. But it never made sense to me that chocolate and coffee should be "bad" for you. I've even had a homeopath tell me that I should have coffee in the morning. As for chocolate, a friend many years ago told me that he took his 16-year-old daughter to a psychiatrist for depression, and rather than prescribe pills for a teenager, he told her to EAT SOME CHOCOLATE!!!

And I think I'll have a teensy weensy teeny tiny bit more of that Portuguese wine.

Now that was a rare homeopath you found and a smart one imo that you found Pat.

The only time i recommend against something like coffee or chocolate is where it turns up in the provings as an aggravation. coffee/nux chocolate/nat mur

If a king died, his chariot and all kinds of things went into the grave, along with his wife/wives and slaves.

Now that's one tradition I'm glad died out . . . oh, oh baaad pun . . . :-)

A licorice lover... I don't go there much, although, like goat cheese I am slowly aquiring the taste...probably the evening I got to try absinthe is when I changed my mind about that flavor...:)

It wouldn't be pretty around here in the mornings without coffee . . . though I must confess I use dark roasted beans/half decaf. And the only time i drink coffee is in the morning . . . sad, but true . .

Anise cake? oh my.

Do any of you all who live on the coast use the wild Fennel? Pinto beans cooked with fennel seeds and onion, are beyond good. So simple and yummy.

Back to our guy Pluto and wealth and death. It's supposed to provide for the afterlife, but there is the element of paying for a good end. And paying for Plutonian riches in the psyche.

This is where I think the current plutocracy will soon run into trouble. They don't understand wealth.

Thanks so much for your grace neith. Ya know. I think for me, Ceres is already here for Virgo.

Well, Neith, sad but true for me, too. Coffee only in the morning. And that's what my homeopath told me, too. . .

By the way, very talented healer and a SCORPIO. He and his wife (also a Scorpio) are doing some interesting work with massage beds that use infrared heat. Very amazing. I used them for a while when I was back in D.C. The technology cured my low-back pain, which had been so bad for the year prior that sometimes when I sat down to write, I was in tears. It hasn't come back since. . .

Pinto beans! I am so remiss. I love them and need to cook beans again from scratch. When I get to my NN in Taurus and learn to relax, I should spend just a little more time cooking.

Yeah, I'm just about toast here, too, but this has been so much fun, thank you, jm. Entertaining guests properly is an art form, and damn, you can even entertain over the intenet! As a sag, I am in awe...Thank you for the music and the wine, it's just what I needed as far as a break from what I was doing today. And thanks all for popping by, it's always fun to talk to you...J

BTW, I've got to do it over the internet. My expensive sand carpet will not allow the outside world in on account of I'm the worst housekeeper in the world and don't want to clean them!

Plus it saves jet fuel getting you all here.
