Hot feet?

I have questions.
Why does fashion so often require pain and/or deformity? Especially the feet.
Why are feet used as sexual symbols or ruined by ballet dancers to force them into some dream of beauty? Where did this come from?
Why is putting all the weight on the the tippy toes then leaping about considered so graceful?
And why is a sensible shoe that loves the earth considered not pretty?

I'm always so puzzled.

Because women are only attractive to patriarchal societies when they are rendered powerless. If they can't run, they can't run away.

Well that says it!

To hell with stilettos!!!!!!!!! Down with pumps and pointed toes!
Down with squeezing, jamming and bunion making!
Down with corns!

Up with sneakers!
And way up with ATHLETIC SHOES!!!!!!!

This is one of my main things. About self defense and shoes. I travel solo a lot and I like to go where I want when I want, which includes late night on the streets. So I like my feet firmly on the ground.

Granted, if the chauffeur came for me in my stretch limo, and transported me everywhere my heart desires, I could hobble around on high heels looking sexy forever, and who needs an achilles tendon anyway?

Strange... none of the last 3 entries showed up for me all weekend. Not one. Then I come here today and find there's been a whole discussion with 42 comments already on one of them alone! :o(

Joe, man! Your connections!

It's your Saturn in the 1st house in Gemini. I'll tell ya all about it later.

awwwh, neith.
Aries Rising it is.
I am whirling, spinning. dipping, and diving a little more than usual these days.
Thanks to you all.
I am definitely alive.

Simply put, joe.

Saturn puts up a wall and blocks the function of the sign it's in. Gemini is connections. So your life is about a lot of miswiring, disconnections, and finding the solution. Deciding which connections are really inportant.

My brother has this, and when he phones me, his cell NEVER works right.

I also have had to keep checking individual postings to see if new comments had been added, because the comment # marker isn't accurate.

Saturn in the 1st House in Gemini can screw up communications, too? ¡Ay! The more I learn, the less I know.

Well, if I go silent for a while, you'll know I'm not seeing any action from this perspective.

Yup. Screwed up communications. But when you do get through, you REALLY get through.

Well Joe, i for one had noticed you had been missing and was hoping that you were off at that wonderful lake for a summer-breather. Missed you. Want some swedish stubbornness? My father says, its just a tiny step to perseverance, i've got tons to spare, don't be shy. I get the same stuff and just keep re-entering, i learned a while ago that Jm and Neith are prolific enough to keep checking. I have Saturn conjunct mars, one foot on the gas the other on the brake!

tseka, there you are! I've got something very important to talk to you about.

But first....last couple of weeks I had awful computer problems and couldn't stay connected. You'd never know it though, talk about perserverence. I agree with that zen guy you call Dad.

Well, tseka, you just solved a problem I've been having for years and years and years.

I've been looking at my NN in Taurus and wondering how I could attain the peace therein with all my blazing fire, my Aries ASC, and all my air fueling it. You answered the question with the Sagittarius/Taurus info and the HEAT in the earth. That is so accurate...the conflict connected to harmony. I was trying to figure out what to do with the combat forces always coming down the mountain. Now I know just to DO IT! It's part of the peace, not an obstacle. This helps so much. I can actually continue to be my exact self. There's balance and contentment right in the fray itself if approached correctly. Like a zen warrior.
Wonderful stuff. Hope you bring us more Alice B.

There is a real key here and I'm just getting to it. The SN in Scorpio is getting away from crisis and pain. So the way to approach the conflict is spiritually, with the joy of the game, above the belt and correct, beutifully mapped strategy, like a good chess game, and no real cruelty or intent to hurt the other. Only to stay aroused an motivated and on the road to self improvement. It can be done. And the outlet for high excitement satisfied.

Sun Tzu would be so pleased jm!

Ja, something is shaking out as i'm reading the ancient scandinavian myths, they expand the NW Indian myths that i worked on years ago, i think all the stories were once ONE story; a circumpolar cosmology describing patterns of the spirit. The Veda is the same stuff when we Mget right to it. This all existed 4,000 years and more ago, little fragments are still floating around, slightly askew because our interpretation was through the lens of a different culture/age. I've been looking for the threads that existed before the patriarchy. That Alice Bailey- Djwahal Khul appears to be another of the fragments. Maybe this winter i'll have more time to devote to some study.

That would be fantastic tseka. You have the range to grasp it all. I look forward to participating and blending our areas of study. It's the elastic come back after being stretched so long in this political arena which really bores me and is a small part of the dimension I live in. It was tough having it dominate, but that's done.
The cool fresh air and breath of your expansive view is wonderful. I'm just in the mood.

This winter I plan to go through a huge edit of my work, perfect my piano arrangements, do my sewing, and get in true zen warrior mode as Pluto comes to square my Mars. A perfect time to expand my studies too.

The NN in Pisces is exactly this. Synthesis of all the parts that have been broken up to the point that the whole is no longer recognized. It would be great to put it back together.

Tseka, not yet but next weekend we're planning to get away. I finally have some paid time off coming to me. And this time I will bring a proper camera so I can show y'all how beautiful it is there, assuming the weather cooperates.

One thing I want above all is for just one clear night so I can see the stars. Nothing is quite as humbling as seeing the vastness of the cosmos to reorient you to your relative size. Not many stars make it through the city glare, although I did notice that Orion is rising already. *sigh* Winter is coming.

Again joe, you did it. I didn't know Orion portended the winter. I have a special feeling for Orion and would like to look into why.

Seeing as it's been about a year, now, I have to say this or I'll burst. I was thinking about the name Katrina today and what it means. There are various forms of the name in almost all the Indo-European languages, including Greek, from whence it apparently comes.

www.behindthename.com tells us its derivation:

"Αικατερινη (Aikaterine). The etymology is debated: it could derive from the earlier Greek name ‘Εκατερινη (Hekaterine), which came from ‘εκατερος (Hekateros) "each of the two"; it could derive from the name of the goddess HECATE; it could be related to Greek αικια (aikia) "torture"..."

I would add, Greek katharsis, from kathairein, "to purge," from καθαρος (katharos, "pure."

In Irish Gaelic, the name becomes Catríona and also Caitlín. In Russian and Ukrainian, it becomes Kateryna, Ekaterina, and Yekaterina. In Danish and Norwegian, it's Karen. In Finnish and Estonian, it's Katariina. And so on.

All this from, apparently, Hecate. And who is Hecate but a Goddess of, among other things, purification by means of destruction. (Source: Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology. C19th Classics Encyclopedia.)

I wonder at the synchronicities behind the naming of these formidable forces such as hurricanes and planets. Some divine sense of humor? Was Katrina and all its devastation a form of purification for which many, many people paid with their lives and livelihood?

Absolutely, 1000% yes. All the underlying socio/political sewage was laid bare by Katrina and this has had a profound effect even though it might not be obvious yet.

I lived in NO and it was one of the most decayed places I've ever been and that was 35 years ago. You could smell it in the air. I was freaked and left as soon as I could.

My theory is that since black holes take in waste matter and Pluto has been passing ours in the Milky Way, Katrina was a symbolic black hole on earth where deep waste matter emerged for our recognition. We are purged somewhat and I know it. The 1st anniversary will soon be here and I think it will be significant.

I wonder at the synchronicities behind the naming of these formidable forces such as hurricanes and planets.

No mistake at all. As we continue with astrology, we can go into this. I love it. And you have knowledge to add.

And this is amazing.

All this from, apparently, Hecate. And who is Hecate but a Goddess of, among other things, purification by means of destruction.

Neith and I met on thread about HECATE!

The catharsis aspect of the name is the story I think. And Pluto is the force behind cathartic purification by destruction.

I love this.

The whole thing of naming is fascinating joe. It's the initial identification and encapsulation of the experience. I'd love to do some research on our names.

Since I think everything is symbolic of a larger experience, the names bring history, myth, and all of that to the present small mundane perception and immediately make it larger than life and understandable in the big context. I pay a lot of attention to these things.

For some mysterious reason, the Greek nd Roman archetypes got permanently etched into the human psyche with the naming of the planets. I find this highly significant. I think one of the reasons I am such a good astrologer is because I feel and have studied these entities completely as I think they hold a lot of answers to our puzzles.
Everbody feels them. They are waiting to make the connections. Maybe these cosmic comedians had this in mind and sat back to watch it unfold.

Oh yes . . . Joe, you have an amazing way of looking at things!! What great research into the name Katrina too. As we have experienced so many times in the last few months, the synchronicity just keep building, one on another. I feel like johnny one note . . . but the there is no other way to survive Pluto than to surrender. NO & Katrina speaks so loudly of that. I never visited there but I'll take jm's word for it that it was a dead & decaying place. Something else that occurred to me about NO - so much pain & misery from all the years slaves were traded there. There are other places in the South but isn't NO one of the oldest port cities? And look what's happening in Africa too, where AIDS came from - the ultimate Plutonian disease.

neith, I hadn't thought of that. The slave trade. That's a great thought.

The tsunami also occurred where there is a huge slave/sex trade.

Oh wow, I hadn't thought of the American slave trade and the sex slavery trade in tsunami areas. Is it a cleansing of accumulated human sorrow and pain? Also, the Mississippi River ends its long journey there after collecting soil and sewage and everything else we stupid people dump into it. That, and the sunken nature of the land there, is probably what accounts for the deadness you describe, jm.

Also, I remember the Hecate discussion on AW. That took place prior to the big storm that pretty much, um, purified AW--- of my presence, anyway. :o)

Yeah, Neith, I'm always noticing and thinking about these kinds of synchronicities but I have no outlet for them except when I bump into a receptive audience that can see what i see and point out what I missed.

You can't imagine how much I like this line of reasoning, joe. I apply it to everything and thus, all experience is necessary. One thing progresses to another and can't be deleted. It's a chain of life.

The cleansing of accumulated sorrow and pain says it so well. Also the I think rivers are symbolic of sorrow and both attract it and wash it away. In religions the rivers are where we do so many of these rituals.
