Aries
One of the most elemental parts of understanding astrology is knowing the 12 archetypes not only intellectually, but with every part of the being. The mythology, the ruling planet, astrology texts, experience, and intuitive sense all combine to bring them to life. It's important to keep in mind that when embodied, the pure characteristics get colored by all the other parts of the map, and everyone will be a unique expression of the sign. So the archetypes aren't really meant to be a mold. Everyone is influenced by all the signs since one sector of the 12 parts of the chart will be ruled by each sign.
Aries is thrust. The force that moves us into life. Just ask a woman who has given birth. Just ask a seed that has sprouted and cracked the earth. Just ask a ram who has met another ram on the mountainside. You'll get an idea of the strength and power of Aries. It's life's kick start and it means business. All about me. Aggression and male sexuality. Every muscle primed for action. Always pushing and thrusting against resistance to build even more strength. Facing conflict. Batting things out of the way, leaving the pack. Seeking the self. Wanting autonomy. And moving into all experience with unrestrained enthusiasm, after conquest and victory. The champion. The Ace.
No wonder Aries is often associated with things not quite civilized and even could be called selfish!! Such as it is.
Aries is the personification of the young man full of vitality, keeping it up, pursuing the targets of his desires, and getting them.
The ram is the symbol of Aries and the planet Mars, its ruler. Wherever we find Mars in the chart we will have access to this force. It's where we initiate and go after what we want, and have unusual strength. The head represents this energy and Aries goes ahead. Sometimes, if they are not running off, it seems that they are here to agitate. But when push comes to shove, Aries can handle almost anything and is the cosmic EMT, warrior in defense of the state, and the one to make us get up and live. And we all have someplace in our charts where we can do this.
There are a million things to say about the sign of Aries, but I'll leave that to you. In my experience the insights from people unschooled in astrology have been as profound as those who are highly educated. I'm in for a treat. I'm an Aries rising, after all. But fear not. I'm harmless.

Teenage male. Ex-brother-in-law. Tarzan.
Ex brother-in-law?
Zorro!
"Ex brother-in-law?"
Yeah...I always picture him because his natal sun was in Aries, and he had a lot of that type of energy. Former air force guy. He once told my sister that he didn't want to have kids because childcare time would interfere with ski vacations! He still wears black leather boots and jeans. A native Brooklynite, I believe.
He complained once to my sister that I seemed hot and cold towards him. Guess I was confusing.
Oh, and then there was this girl named Emily in high school. She was kind of brainy and independent, and for some reason I admired her style. And she was blond. Maybe I like Aries in women better.
On the other hand, Leonardo da Vinci was an Ares, and if we spoke the same language, I bet I could have an intelligent conversation with him. Van Gogh was an Aries, but I dunno about him, what with the ear thing.
Oh, yes, dunno her birthday, but let's nominate Buffy the vampire slayer! Hmm, she's another blond.
hot and cold? Better than lukewarm. He must have liked you.
He once told my sister that he didn't want to have kids because childcare time would interfere with ski vacations!
Ha ha !! Is this Aries? Good man. Spared the potential children.
Yes. Aries women are adored by men. I love them too. They do well in this sign, probably better than men. The independence is charming in the Aries gal, annoying to many in the men. And the sexual bravado in the female is more palatable.
Van Gogh and the ear also get to me. One night he made a hat of burning candles so he could paint the corn field in the dark. He had a horrid intense relationship with Gaughin. Very Aries. Hated the world.
Charle Chaplin was a do everything yourself Aries. Total control of his productions including the composition of the music. Marlon Brando was the embodiment of the virility and screw you attitude, but the capacity for real devotion when the desire was there.
Marcel Marceau is the one man show Aries.
Aries can be very agile, make good mimes and dancers.
Well, the synchro goes on and on!
Tonight I ran across my BLOND Aries friend who I hadn't seen in ages.
What a kick!!!! Pure Aries energy. gorgeous too.
Yes, and the illustration you picked for this message thread depicts a light-haired man, too.
Well, of course!
I'm a raven haired Aries rising beauty myself, but I'm a young single guy persona in keeping with the archetype. Maybe I should bleach myself and really get attractive!
One thing Aries often have is strong wiry hair that could double as a weapon and easily wound another in the battlefield. Just in case.
Hmm, my hair's on the black side, but kind of stiff and wavyish. One day, I realized that the itchy spot in my side was an embedded splinter of hair from a haircut I had months prior!
A bit of chakra psychology, for those who may be interested:
In Tantric tradition, the first major chakra, or subtle energy vortex, is associated with the base of the spine, reddish hues and "the red planet" Mars (ruler of Aries).
It has to do with the physical body, and therefore survival and fear issues. It is also associated with financial survival and learning to be grounded, standing on one's own feet, assertiveness, and some say childlike joy/innocence.
You might think that financial issues ought to be another chakra and planet, but the sequence dovetails with alternate signs of the zodiac.
The second major chakra goes to Mercury (ruler of Gemini), the color orange, the sexual organs.
Superimposing a twelvefold color wheel on the zodiac makes the pattern clearer. Red goes to Aries, and green goes to Libra. Green is esoterically linked to Venus, ruler of Libra. All the primary colors are fire signs: Aries is red, Leo is a sunny yellow, Sagittarius a sky blue. (Interestingly, classic color harmonies, or aesthetic combinations of colors, correspond to astrology's aspects, in particular, the opposition, grand trine, grand square, yod.)
The seventh chakra contains all colors (or white), and all possible sounds or frequencies (white noise), and is closely associated with the Moon.
The connection between systems is perhaps not perfect, but intriguing.
I realized that the itchy spot in my side was an embedded splinter of hair from a haircut I had months prior!
c'mon!
I'm very interested in Chakra psychology. I don't remember these connections. I'm going to study this.
The colors associated with the signs are all over the place and I still haven't decided.
I wonder about the chakra thing when there are only seven. Money is connected to survival but Taurus is so obviously the most money oriented. maybe the chakras in this compactness combine the signs.
Taurus is also all about possessions. Maybe money and things aren't the same.
This is one of my major interests. The real meaning of money.
I would also love love love to go into a color theory discourse.
I believe I will.
"One day, I realized that the itchy spot in my side was an embedded splinter of hair from a haircut I had months prior!"
>Silicea hair it can sometime feel like glass. My Japanese roommate at University has this kind of hair -beautiful.
A beautician patient, came to me with an embedded hair from a client, drilled right through her smock into her skin. Homeopathic silcea took it out....the homeopathic knife we call silcea.
Here's another connetion,
Human constitution of Ki ~ Electromagnetic energy
Lung Aries
Large Intestine Meridian Taurus
Stomach Meridian Geminii
Spleen Meridian Cancer
Heart Meridian Leo
Small intestine meridian Virgo
Bladder Meridian Libra
Kidney Meridian Scorpio
Heart Governor Meridian Sagittarius
Triple Heater Meridian Capricorn
Gall Bladder Meridian Aquarius
Liver Meridian Pisces
Also many systems find more than seven Chakras the seven of the spine (and four of hands and feet) being primary but there are also others...we can be "full spectrum" in living colour!

Sheeese.
The Ki breakdown is odd and interesting. Putting these things together is quite an undertaking. I'm going to go back through these and see.
I also am interested in the extra chakras.
So much comes down here and I hate to let it go without comtemplation. Guess I'll have to rev up Merc/Mars square to a higher power.
My dissertation advisor sent me a copy of a student's work she thought interesting and i have seen it elsewhere by others; a comparative analysis of homeopathic medicines and astro signs. I did not agree with all the findings but it was thought provoking. Archetypal patterns never cease to interest me.
Archetypal patterns never cease to interest me.
You and me both. I can wander mentally but actually I can also concentrate extremely well with my Mars/ Mercury and my Saturn/Pluto.
It takes slowing down but I am so interested in the archetypes and the cross connections I would love to delve deeply into it.
This is such a rare opportunity to have this meeting of magnificent and curious minds. Sometimes I think we are afraid it won't last and feel rushed, but I don't fear that. I want to know what's in everyone's brain here. It is infinite, I realize, but I have time.
First.
The terror game is winding down and Jupiter is going into Sagittarius which will free us up to get back to our studies. I know I am taking a deep breath, letting life outside go on automatic a bit, and getting ready to go up another level in my evolution. I still say this is a great moment.
What has just happened which I like, is the conversations going on several threads at once. This way we can go further into subjects we want to individually and focus on different things among the threads and sites. We're immersed in this new and exciting place and can't see the forest yet, but I sense that all of us here are going to emerge with a lot of knowledge and some added confidence and self love.
I am looking forward to the immediate future.
Let me add that the shift of Mars into Libra yesterday is really strong. Libra is air and ideas and Mars goes for it, so the surge of mental energy has been almost overwhelming. Since tseka, joe, neith, casey, and I all have megatons of Libra, we will be cooking and steaming.
That leaves Kadimiros, the odd man out with no Libra, but only a million Aquarius air planets. Higher than high. Just watch out for his Venus/Mars conjunction!(Venus:Libra,Mars)
For joe, tseka, and me with Mars in Libra it's the start of a new 2 year Mars/energy cycle.
"c'mon!"
Oh, yes, true story. It must have been rubbed into the skin by the waistband of my pants. It itched mildly sometimes, but I didn't realize what it was until I twisted my torso enough to see it. Nowadays, I always rush home to shower after haircuts.
"I'm very interested in Chakra psychology. I don't remember these connections. I'm going to study this.

It's an idealized schema, which leaves out detail. The color wheel in the illustration is an abstract one of pure hues, there are more complex color wheels that contain not only hues, but also tones, tints and shades, which are various admixtures with complementary colors, white, and black.
Each major chakra is fractal, composed of microchakras (classically symbolized as petals on a flower), which recapitulate something of the sevenfold sequence in microcosm, and is reported to exhibit other colors besides the predominant association. The first major chakra contains only four microchakras, and the seventh has nearly a thousand. Analogous to the idea of sign decanates, maybe.
"I wonder about the chakra thing when there are only seven. Money is connected to survival but Taurus is so obviously the most money oriented. maybe the chakras in this compactness combine the signs."
There are other surrounding chakras, though they receive less emphasis in the literature. There is a subchakra for a lunar node, just above the eyes. Then within the seventh major chakra, there is a microchakra for the other lunar node. One of them has something to do with wish fulfillment which happens when individual will is in alignment with universal purpose.
I think some Buddhists emphasize fewer chakras than do the Hindus. It might be a cultural thing. I do suspect that some of the functions are compressed.
Some contemporary writers attempt a more linear correspondence by attributing the outer planets to chakras higher in frequency than the seventh, and locate them above the head, outside the human body. I am not sure it is necessary, though appealing.
Basically, the schemas could be regarded as attempts to map points/regions along energy spectrums of increasing frequency and complexity.
Although none of the literature that I've seen makes it explicit, I notice that odd-numbered chakras have to do with levels of individuation (I think that these map to the fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), and even-numbered chakras have to do with relationship or, more abstractly, something like merging of dualities (the air signs: Gemini the Twins at the gonads, Libra the Scales at the heart chakra, and Aquarius the sign of universal brotherhood and foresight at the brow).
The literature on chakras and on astrology can be confusing to absorb, but it appears to me that, to some extent, number symbolism has been an organizing influence in both systems. How and when it got there, I don't know.
I feel that Reality is dazzlingly multidimensioned, and our attempts to categorize things neatly are imperfect abstractions.
I don't want it to get too confusing, but these things might be helpful to some as an organizing tool for ideas and associations.
"Here's another connection,

Lung Aries"
I am not familiar with the Meridian system, although I've heard it suggested that lines of force intersect to create accupuncture points and chakras.
Hmm, I wonder how Aries is associated with the lungs. The inbreath of air and energy?

This is totally absolutely fascinating. As you know (or might not) my area of expertise is the lunar nodes. I've done years of study on them and I am of the opinion that they are the most important part of the chart. This is where my chart analysis is leading.
The North node is EXACTLY that...wish fulfillment and universal purpose. The real purpose of the incarnation. This is fantastic.
Aries is the entrance to life so the first breath could be the lung association.
"Hmm, I wonder how Aries is associated with the lungs. The inbreath of air and energy?"
Ja, alertness, emotion and clear thinking/ reasoning and motor skills- think of oxygen deprivation -sleepiness, depression, sluggishness. The source of our energy from blood.
"Taurus is also all about possessions. Maybe money and things aren't the same."
It seems to work better with the ruling planets.
Money is a later development than barter. I could guess that Mars is most like the hunter/gatherer, and Venus in her earthy aspect gives knowledge of husbandry and agriculture, and Mercury brings in commerce/trade (Mercury being the patron god of boundaries, roads, commerce/trade, and of course, thieves).
You really are Aries! You covered a lot of territory fast.
We need your birth info as we're going to do all our charts. Too bad you missed the Aries talk. We didn't have one. Just Aries rising me.
