A Tear and a Handkerchief

For the bedraggled Netroots. They're meeting in Austin this week-end and you know what I think? They're in the doghouse.
The incoming administration has not shown favor toward the group and their myriad requests and I know .... they're bummed.
But cheer up! It's Austin. Great party town!

And sleep well if you plan to camp out along the way.
Upp .. I mean .... I forgot about the gas.

I was UT student in the Austin glory days, '64-'68. You name it, I did it, and boy was it fun. Austin is still a great town, of course, just 10X (?) as big.

Ugh.

Oh yes, the netroots: well, I participate, and visit blogs off and on throughout my day, but I think there's only so much that can be done with a "network" that evaporates instantly when the power's down, or when DHS decides to flip a switch.

Go, Obama!

Okay, back to pretending to work.

Pretending to work! That's one thing about the electrically dependent network. It's added to the work day. Beasts of burden unite!

Just wanted to share a gem I found at www.whatreallyhappened.com today:

"Slavery takes root in fear."

It appeared in reference to a British surveillance legislative effort to "fight terrorism."

The comment reads, in full:

"This is about keeping the British subjects too afraid to talk to each other about how bad things are getting in their country.

Slavery takes root in fear."

Very apropos in light of the recent flap about FISA, both here and elsewhere!

Ha! Maybe it's a Pluto in Capricorn plot to get us to behave better since we're being monitored so closely!

They always do this then give up because it's too much trouble. The point made earlier that it's about business deals primarily is a good one. Sweden just joined the game so it makes sense that big deals are being made.

"This is about keeping the British subjects too afraid to talk to each other about how bad things are getting in their country.

Are you serious? Afraid to talk? A long way to go on that one.

I'm afraid to be afraid.

Don't put me on a roller coaster with a snake in it. Now that's fear.

Afraid to talk about how bad things are?? Hah. Not the Brits. Not as long as the pubs are still open and the pints are poured and the darts fly.

The mainstream media, however, are a different story.

A snake on a roller coaster would be nine times more scared than you, jm. curled up in a scaly-ropey clot, he would be, as far away from screaming humanity as he could get. Probably drowned in the water splash, too.

So never fear a snake on a roller coaster.
