Exotic Imports

These weenies are fab, Dorothea!

I know, Vera. They're imported from Lapland, I believe. Quite rare.

LOL! I'll let someone else go first. :-)

My mom always used to say, "Eat fish, and swim like a fish!" She never said anything about eating weinies, though.

So she knew you were a Pisces rising!

Nah, my mom doesn't know anything about zodiac signs. But she did say she thought I would be obstinate and disobedient, which of course aren't Piscean traits as far as I know. The only connection is me!

More seriously, I do think that it was difficult for my relatives to relate to the kid in the family with the richest inner life and ideals that baffled them, though. (Neptune aspects, maybe.) I was never willing to cross over to her worldview, and she thought that confirmed the early diagnosis of obstinance. (Hmm, I have Neptune square Moon, come to think of it.)

Ha, Neith! First thing I thought also was "reindeer." In fact, I ate reindeer cold cuts when I was in Sweden (you probably did, too, in Finland). Not only were they rare, they were raw. Kind of like prosciutto.

Casey, if you think people roll their eyeballs when you say you're a Pisces, you should thank goddess you're not a Scorpio!

Well, Casey, my sister got that, too, and she was a Gemini.

The thing about Pisces is that they are SOOOooooo easy to pick on. With my Pisces Moon in the first house -- I consider myself an "honorary Pisces" -- I was also the kid who got picked on for everything, so I know. Pisces is hypersensitive, which is misunderstood as weak, and the weak get picked on. It's just one of those horrible, cruel things about human nature, especially evident in children.

My guess with your family is that you had your nose in a book because that was your way of escaping, which is very Pisces. Either you didn't want to be there, or something about certain people got on your nerves, because Pisces absorbs other people's stuff like a sponge. And because you weren't joining in, you made yourself an outcast and therefore an object of ridicule.

Just a guess. . .

Make that Especially during family gettogethers for me . . . Moon conjunct Neptune has a similar effect. Only difference was having Scorp Rising/Mars I threw things . . . hard. With 3 other siblings, all of us born from '45 to '49, it was noisy & competitive around our house. I still don't care much for family gatherings . . . :-)

Reindeer was considered a delicacy in Finland too. Cloud berries from Lapland were a really special treat. Ligonberries were served with just about everything in the Winter. They're a great source of Vit C . . . and when eaten w/blood pancakes, you really get lots of vitamins & minerals! And yes, those i did eat . . . it was the slivers of raw fish that refused to go down. Not a fan of caviar either.... :-)

We had a center manager for a while here that was Norwegian. It's hard to imagine two more opposite places than Norway and Texas. He enjoyed it (European men seem to have a big cowboy fantasy going) but his teenage daughters were so miserable, he finally had to quit the company and go home to Norway.

Anyway, they didn't like the food here (too spicy), didn't like the sun or heat (beet red sunburns), and probably didn't like the people (they were shy).

On the other hand, I would starve to death in Norway, except for the bread and cheese (and those berries sound good too). I don't eat any kind of fish. Or other seafood. Something about being chased by an Alaskan king crab at Fisherman's Wharf when I was three.

You're totally right about my family get-togethers -- my paternal grandmother was (as my sweet stepfather Bud used to say) "the meanest old woman he ever met." She'd get all shrill and go off at the drop of a hat. And she was an Aquarian, too! Strangest Aquarian I ever met. I don't know her ascendent but jm is totally right about asc. with THAT one.

'Course she's the one I look like the most.
