I love it when things come togehter, like pigs and Kinky Friedman. I''m going to put his book on my wish list. I'm glad he's still in the governor race. Such interesting discussions here -- I wish I had more time. But I do read almost everything. Speaking of sound, last night I went to hear the Melvins, joined by Big Business - guitarist, bass, and two phenomenal drummers playing loud and fast and astonishingly and perfectly in synch for the whole set. I agree completely about there being too much noise in modern life, but sometimes the right kind of noise can completely clear the head, and light up all kinds of pleasure centers through the body.

Noise is a distraction, since I think hearing grabs the attention the most. It works the best to help forget troubles, the age old purpose of music.

A unrecognized noise in particular will take attention completely away from what was going on.

This is why I think hearing is so fundamental to survival.

When people went stupid and started comparing Bush to Hitler, I always was relieved that the Neocons used no music at all, unlike Hitler, who rose to power largely because of it. The cons were especially devoid of music. I knew they weren't cutting it. This was a big comfort to me.

All the freedom, liberty, evildoers talk will prove to be insignificant. But music lingers in memeory and arouses huge response.

I have noted this to. There are political plugs for various candidates that make quite effective use of this tool to affect an emotional response. Since you don't watch TV, you miss out on lots of this stuff!! Good thing for you . . . probably end up throwing various heavy objects at it . . :-) I turn the sound off frequently waiting for the local weather guy to come on.

The political plugs are awful. neith, but only one fraction of what I'm spared. That hokey emotional appeal is tragic, as it reminds me of the evolution of my human family. Needs work. We're stuck in the cheesy Hallmark card.

Someone let me out!!

Not only the music, but the speakers on TV are unbearable. Either they're tinny and they hurt my ears or they boom with that fake bass so popular now.

All in all an easy to avoid experience.

Well, I hate to have to say anything nice about George W., but he actually seems to have really good musical tastes. Because they coincide with my own. lol.

However, there was a major faux pas for the inaugaration, when the White House announced that Van would play and Van said, "No way!"

That cracked me up.

And the Kinkster went and put his foot in his mouth again yesterday. BTW his campaign manager is the one who got Jesse Ventura elected so that's probably why there's an action figure doll.

Texas politics are usually good for very big giggles.
