Taurus and the Human Race

The turtle is one of my favorite creatures on the earth and embodies the one characteristic I prize most about Taurus.... the slow and steady style. Frantic multitasking busyness is what most people seem to aspire to, and they appear to think this reveals importance. I feel the opposite. The person who takes his time and moves without being electrically prodded shows me real confidence. The person who does nothing, probably the most.

Turtles in general can be traced back over 200 million years to the first shelled vertebrae. Long ago they had teeth to chew with, but now all turtles have is a sharp beak to crush their food. The fact that these animals have been traced back two hundred million years is very impressive because birds, amphibians, and modern mammals have been traced back only 160 million years. Turtles have gone essentially unchanged since their early ancestors, with few to no changes in their anatomy.

Can't beat that. Unchanged and so uniquely successful. Good enough as is. Love that longevity.

I have a slow metabolism. For years people have asked me why I'm not famous. Why I don't 'go for it'. Well, what's to run after? I'll get there. Or there will get here. I have never seen the reason to rush. More than anything, I value the freedom to take my time. I believe my slow pace will bring me health and some of the turtle's famous longevity. And the ability to savor my experience. I'm not at all in a hurry to get to the end of my life.
I love the turtle. And I love my North Node in Taurus.

Well, after all, the hare and the tortoise is a great archetype...and those slow metabolisms...I remember being in awe when I was a child because tortoises can live hundreds of years. There is a wonderful play by Tom Stoppard called "arcadia" which takes place almost simultaneously in both the present and the the early eighteen hundreds, the people in the 'present' discovering as they go along what occured in the 'past'. The link is a pet tortoise that has been a household fixture all that time...

Welcome KJ. I certainly understand your situation out there in MO. I grew up in IL and left, then came back 7 years later and left again after about 7 years because I just really couldn't hack it. (hmm, saturn cycles...). I had a few good friends there and a genius artist druid friend who taught me much (he would love the woad thing:)...)but the everyday struggle to blend in, ignore the intolerance, and keep my effing mouth shut just got to me. Now I'm on the west coast where there are always people further out than me...gads I feel nearly normal here...good luck with everything, and again welcome, raging universe is shaping up to be one of the most daring, original, and dare I say artistic, sites on the internet. jm's plodding taurus tortoise NN is pioneering along and taking us for a pretty cool ride. Comfy too. Good food and conversation...:)...
So jm, any thought how Taurus compares to Cap, the other sign known for it's stamina and slow metabloism?

JM,
this might not be the right place - I met you at an art show a little while back -- we talked a lot -- about waiting and desire and of course Bill Winter (I was just writing to people about him). I tried to email you but am not sure you got it. So wanted to say Hello again. What a fantastic blog, though I'm an astrology dolt. I too love tortoises did a little painting of one once (and you can count my paintings on one hand). A friend of mine had a tortoise called Lightning who lived under his porch. And Juno, I loved Arcadia. There was also a wonderful play by a guy named Eric Overmeyer about a Victorian woman explorer travelling through the jungle and finding artifacts from the future -- at one point she falls in love with Mr. Coffee.

Metabolism. Well, the person who breathes most calmly, slowly, when involved in an interpersonal situation tends to have the most control over it.

Such great feedback on the turtle!! I'm thrilled. I so love this little reptilian delight.

Jujupoison!!! Welcome!!!!!
Another wonderful surprise.
The best people in the world are coming here. If we consolidate I know we will be effective. It just take energy. Hard times have helped us.

Did you read the post underneath? I bet B. Winter last night and put it out there that he should represent us in this state. He had some enlightening things to say about the military and the use of war. Never heard it before from a pol.
The USA has Mars the planet of aggression making a big change, effecting our military, and he represents what could be forthcoming.

Juju, I was entranced by you at our meeting I am so glad you've arrived. You will love these people.
A tortoise called "lightning"! Ha ha !
Actually tortoises can boogy when they want to.

Juno, one big difference between Taurus and Cap is that Taurus is a fixed sign and stays rooted letting things come to him. Cap is Cardinal and she ventures forward and leans into life. They both are connected to their bodies in a big way and other things notwithstanding enjoy things like sex more sincerely that some other signs.
Capricorn has a social calling, Taurus doesn't. The signs are all so unique. We can spend forever learning about them.
All earth signs are about the practicalities of daily living and can see what's right in front of them. Capricorn on a larger scale....structure of societies. Capricorns when archetypal tend to accept the world as is with the intent of improving it. But I find their understanding of things the way they are, refreshing.

Well, the person who breathes most calmly, slowly, when involved in an interpersonal situation tends to have the most control over it.

OMG. This is reason to breathe.

Sorry yes! tseka has first dibs on the black licorise. But i share, you don't mind that Kadimiros, he has some food issues...

Oh KJ glad to see you here. The poetry is beautiful.

We share the same dream it seems, and i know others who share it. I think of it as remembering. For me they began about mid 80's with some intensity but was there ever a time in my life when i was unaware of the speaker, i can't recall it. We too have felt the compulsion to write / share and wonder if we betray the "gift". We have come to a place over the two years, since finding each other, that it will unfold as it will as long as we remain listening. It isn't "ripe" yet.....we drop seeds.

I am soo glad you found us here in jm's place.

The gifts won't be betrayed. They will be sheltered in this haven.

Sigh.

This does sound like copper lined boxes. Tseka will fill you in, kj. You will know completely.

I totally identify being a taurus-I am slow, methodical and always reach wherever I want to(in my own time). I hate being rushed and I love al my qualities most of them with the letter "P"(patient, persistent, prodding, peaceful). I am a tortoise.
