Taurus

Taurus likes nature and loves to relax. And yes, they are bullies. If you think Aries is selfish, compared to Taurus he is a self immolating sacrificial lamb.
After man is thrust out into the world in Aries and stakes his territory, he is ready to fully incarnate in the earthly dimension, and to grasp and acquire. Taurus is the awakening of the five senses and the appreciation of life's pleasures. The urge to to put down roots, provide for needs, and accumulate possessions. He now decides upon the value of everything. A price is established. Taurus is about comfort with life on earth. He intends to enjoy it.
One main characteristic of Taurus is the centering of self within the body and full attention paid to satisfying desires. The taking of what the material world has to offer. Strength, stability, and endurance are prized. Practicality is natural.
A typical evening with my best Taurus friend includes plenty of wine in the garden, a pack of smokes, a great dinner, gorgeous music, slow conversation, and a walk-thru to smell the flowers and admire the vegetables, sometimes under the moon.
And cooks? The best. Another one is the best cook I know. He slow simmers pots of anything for hours and I have never tasted food more delicious. Pinto beans become a four star meal.
Not known for their sensitivity to others they can actually knock you out of the way if you're in their path. And I never, ever disagree with one. It's pointless.

My favorite Taurus........

Swami vish i nu
Gawd has spoken. After dinnerrr and sveetmeats ve vill sing our prraises too de lord. Den ve vill have tea vith honey and cardamon, also vith sherrbet and apples.
If you ever attend a ceremony led by Swami vish i nu you will experience the ultimate in Taurus. Beautiful scents fill the air, gentle bells ring, music soothes. Oil lamps and candles shimmer throughout room. Lots of pillows. It's very peaceful. You will be enchanted.

Taurus, yes I like Taurus. I find them relaxing to be around w/two house cusps in Taurus, the 6th & 7th. My experience of Taurus is very good - they have been kind, generous, loyal friends & lovers. Them being bullies? Not towards me personally (that Scorp ASC must keep them on their toes . .) but sure have seen that type of behavior towards others. Worked for a Taurus vet, long time friend, treated me like a princess & the other employees like slaves . . I left after about a year though I like working with animals. BTW, Taurus people can work with cattle like no others, truly amazing to observe.

This actually more of a reply to the last thread, sorry...
Did bunches of research on the A. Muscaria last fall because they grow around here...like mushrooms...(ergh)... Here they're pretty distinguishable from the 'destroying angels' (the poisonous white amanita, forget it's specie name), the 'death caps' A. phalloides(which are locally quite an ugly shade of bronzy-green, not at all attractive), and the A.pantherinas which are spotted but buffy green-colored rather than red.
Seems that the colors of the amanita muscaria can be connected up with the 'goddesses that came before time'...esp. in the egyptian and indian pantheons...it's often amusing because both Durga and Sekhmet are acknowledged both as exisiting before time (and humans)but then in later legends are both 'invented' by male gods...anyhoo, both these goddesses wear red, often flecked with gold or white, and have fairly parallel stories, the story of Sekhmet's being drunk on a red potion and killing demons in her agitation mirrors amanita intoxication pretty closely. The fact that these goddesses exist 'before time' is also interesting. Awhile back, I found a space picture of our galactic center...it was a red cloud with the stars shining thru it creating gold and white spots...I'll post it if I can find it again...
Great link for further speculation on the muscaria:

http://www.jamesarthur.net/ja.html

I suspect the A.Muscaria was mankind's first trip...and first encounter with 'the gods'. I know the siberian shamans still use it. It is edible if prepared correctly. I remember reading about the japanese making a kind of kimchee-type pickle out of it, and in eastern europe, it's eaten, but only after intense preparation and cooking.
Never screwed up the courage to try it myself...I would much rather eat the local porcini which spring up about the same time up here...now THAT's a Taurean delight!

Ah Neith and Juno, two of my favorite goddesses right here!

We are glad to see you again Juno, many of us commented and wondered, sent our thoughts your way.

I'm with you Neith, Taurus, i love 'em.
Juno i posted similar at the end of the last thread this am.

Do you think the "existing before time" may refer to the space one goes to or ability to travel outside time. This is one of the key responses to the drug, astral travel.
I remember seeing that GC photo on Eric Francis/ planetwaves i think?? Good connection!

back to framing, the last one and i'm done. glad for it as all the starch is gone from me.

Hi Tseka, Good to 'see' ya! yah, sorry to be gone so abruptly, I don't get depressed often (that sag optimism, I think) but things were not coming together well (the phrase 'can of worms' comes to mind)and I don't feel comfortable imposing my bummers on others...besides I'm not nearly as funny nor interesting when I'm obsessing. I also find myself to be the emotional balance to my oh-too sensitive scorpio-crab husband, whose majorly water chart at times seems to give him the emotional stability of a plate of jello. After we got some positive progress made, and made a couple of changes to the 'team' helping us with things, he cheered up, which allows me to be more of my own optimistic self. In our house, when the crab's unhappy, ain't nobody happy, as they say...

Yes, I think I saw that picture on Eric Francis's site! I saved it somewhere, but I have files and files of art images and it's a bit daunting to slog thru them all looking for one pic. If I have it I'll find it and post it... (after I post before-n-after pics of the house, which I'll do soon... :) )

Hmm, yeah, 'before' or 'outside' time? Of course we 'civilized' humans are somewhat responsible for the concept of linear time, the natural world experiences cycles of time and the 'molecular' world (for want of a better term) 'sees' everything happening at once, as per quantum physics....
Things like the amanita seem to take us out of our limited view of time (which exists partially because of our wiring, and partially from acculturation) and dump us squarely into the quantum realm which to us seems 'eternal'. Time anomalies have always fascinated me. The stories of DMT trips that seemed to last for hundreds of years, but were only seven minutes or so...the story of the young man who hit his head on the ice and while he was blacked out for about three minutes in 'our' time, lived thru an entire lifetime from birth to death elsewhere in time (in a place which we term 'the past'... I've also heard of similar experiences on ketamine. Always made me wonder if when I 'die' here, I'll just wake up somewhere else and say, "God that was a weird dream/trip/whatever"...)Once I even had the experience of spontaneously, along with a couple of friends, walking 'out of time' for just a few seconds...We were caught up in a crowd on New Year's Eve in San Francisco. We were trying to get to this bar near Union Square that we were supposed to meet others at. On the south side of the square, for some reason, the riot cops had barricaded the sidewalks and were standing in the middle of the street in a menacing way, keeping everyone in. We took a turn and accidentally got mashed in with this, people were getting trampled because the police had constructed an enclosed dead end to keep people from approaching the square and by the time we discovered that, more people behind us coming into the mess blocked our way out. I 'swam' over to the barrier (it's like an undertow in a river, you can navigate by going kinda diagonal to it...)along with my friends so at least we could breathe (it was THAT tight and scary, swear to god, a panicked crowd like that, it creates this undertow and tries to pull you down under it.. I'd step on you to see The Who, indeed...)). I remember pulling a young girl up from under the crowd, and the other girl with our group was pretty tiny and she kept screaming that she couldn't breathe...Suddenly, I made this weird descision to step out from behind the barrier ..I remember thinking that I would rather get thrown in the SF jail than get crushed in the crowd. So I did. Suddenly everyone around us seemed frozen, I could hear the crowd but it was like hearing somone when you're submerged in a bathtub. I pulled the teenager in front of me (the girl I'd helped up) over the barrier, and she ran down the street, and the guy who was with me helped me get his girlfriend over. We then walked right past the frozen riot cops, coulda touched them if we had dared to ...we just walked on thru...meanwhile everyone else was still behind the barrier moving oh-so-slowly, unaware of us. Once we got across the street, the 'spell' broke and things snapped back to 'real' time for us.

As you can figure from that one..time (and the lack of it) really interests me...

I LOVE this characteristic. I've found that when I'm in pain I retreat to my den like an animal to heal my wounds. When I deal with them myself I feel like I have a better chance of getting to the source and fixing the problem. I follow the painl ike a map and people's stuff distracts me from this important process.

One thing about you and the jello mound is his Cancer and your North Node in Cancer. The SN in Cap can scoff at babydom in an adult, lose patience with the crybabying, but with Cancer it's unavoidable.

My Taurus aunt is 95 years old. Last year on the way to her sister's funeral they all were packed into the car with my aunt directing them. An argument ensued, as one relative said her route was wrong. NO ONE could budge her. They ended up on her wrong route slightly late for the funeral, but she, of course, paid it no mind.

Her answer to what people think?

Who cares what they think?

She's extreme, though. Lots of Taurus planets plus the NN.

my favorite cousins, two of them are Taurus, one is Scorpio (siblings). The taureans started playing instruments at the age of 3 and are both professional musicians. The Scorpio followed his guru to India. Followed him back . Became a greek orthodox monk . His monastery became the town volunteer fire department, bread bakers, and ostrich egg farmers. Later they became experts on on-line genealogical tracking and made greek orthodox icons for sale on the internet. His guru left the monastery, so he followed him back to India. I think.

The two musicians -- one used to be a nun, but left before final vows. She then taught music in a college before moving to New York. She married an Hungarian violinst who was first chair with the NY Philharmonic and raised a daughter. Now she lives in Arizona and has married again. The other one is a professional cellist in New Mexico, land of enchantment.

my brother is a Taurus airplane pilot, always wanted to fly. Amazingly well off and disgustingly pompous. His hobby is writing music, alternating between new age and c&w. Not a bully, but annoying.

Interesting people . It does fit the Taurus-music connection.

Well, I always debate with Libra types, since they so oten take an alternative view for the love of ideas and debate. But when I disagree with some Tauruses, there really is no argument.

Another aunt of mine was a biploar Taurus and I loved her. She also was centerd in herself but was very funny, sharp, and never unkind to me. Her daughter, however, will never recover.

Taurus rising is a whole other matter.

that makes me an atypical Libran, doesn't it. Must be all that Scorpio or else having Neptune conjunct Moon, because i have a deep dislike of arguing for the sake of argument. And I have never enjoyed debates in the slightest! Now my mom, also Libra, Virgo ASC, argues w/everyone except me. She told me when she & her Capricorn sister were growing they argued constantly . . .

I noticed that about you, neith. I think it has something to do with your SN in the 1st and the gap you are trying to cross to get to people. The North in the 7th is probably the most cooperative thing in the universe.

All my Librans argue, but of course I have a Mars in Libra. Your NN even bypasses that.

14/9/06 5:23 PM
Blogger jm said...

You are unusally supportive of people which is a NN 7th trait. I think your Scorpio in this case is used for a certain kind of merging because of the sense that others are so good for you. It also makes the merging reasonable for the good of the relationship. I imagine though it was trial and error to get to this.

14/9/06 5:28 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

it's not just neith's sn in 1st that causes the gap...it's also her major planets are relatively unaspected ... either distant aspects or else minor ones. But I don't find neith to have a gap anyway. i think she's one of the warmest people and easiest to get along with of us all. i'm still getting ready to look at your chart, neith. i promise.

Now, on the other hand...

"Taurus rising is a whole other matter. "

huh? what's wrong with us?

And the Hungarians I have known (not that many to be sure) are some of the most up and down people I've ever met. They're either REALLY out there and charming the blankety-blank out of you or else they're stormy as all get out. Charming raconteurs though.

ummmm, Yes!! Lots of error . . . :-) Because my sun progressed to Scorpio shortly after I started walking, all of the first 30 yrs I behaved much more like a Scorpio, nasty tongue & all. I was told you could sharpen a knife on my tongue when I was in my twenties. During my first Saturn Return, I started consciously focusing on what I was saying . . . when Saturn was squaring my Mars/Mercury/ASC (which are the transits that are starting to repeat now! Very Interesting!!) The need to help others feel better about themselves is who I am - and saying mean things so doesn't help reach that goal. It does always go back to that NN in Gemini, doesn't it?! Don't you just love astrology!! :-)

Tseka, Eris is the Greek Goddess of Strife. Discordia, the worship of Eris, as a religion or philosophy is something like Chaos Theory. I explored it somewhat when I first heard of it, drawn at the time by the wry cynicism and blase attitude toward chaos and how things seem to fall apart.

In the myth, Eris accompanies Ares who rides above the battling armies. Eris tosses her golden apple of discord among crowds of men, causing each to want it for himself and making him willing to kill for it.

The following is from the Principia Discordia, and gives us a taste of the wry, sarcastic, outrageous POV of Discordianism.

"A Discordian is Required during his early Illumination to Go Off Alone & Partake Joyously of a Hot Dog on a Friday; this Devotive Ceremony to Remonstrate against the popular Paganisms of the Day: of Catholic Christendom (no meat on Friday), of Judaism (no meat of Pork), of Hindic Peoples (no meat of Beef), of Buddhists (no meat of animal), and of Discordians (no Hot Dog Buns)."

That's what I know of Eris. Now why is a planetary body named after her? I'm intrigued. Hail Eris!

I love Taurus! But I suppose that I should... being a natal Sun Taurus and all! Alas, my sense of self was wounded long ago, being born with a suffocating conjunction to Chiron (< 2 deg).

Well, actually it's not all that bad. Chiron does make me think about the spiritual side of things more. But I do find myself leaning quite a bit on my Capricorn Moon for some reason or another. But then Chiron is trine that too, so I'm all wounded and screwed up!

Sorry, jm. That was intended to be a humorous vent. Really though, I was quite a blockhead when I was young, in the classic blockheaded Taurean sense of things. Aside from the Chironian jolts, I credit my mom in part, a very determined Sag Sun with a Scorpio Moon and Aquarius rising for knocking me out of that. It takes a very stubborn person to bring a Taurus out of anything! I've still got my Taurean taste for fine wine and jazz, though, not to mention good food. No one is going to shake me up about those things!

Another thing to love about Taureans: Hugs. No one else will hug you like a Taurus can. Not that Cancerians aren't huggy or clingy, soft and warm and all of that (jm, I know you can verify this!). But a touchy-feely sensual Taurus is the ultimate in showing and giving physical affection. At least in my experience. Every Taurus girl I've known and been hugged by must have stopped time in the process. It's never a quick process, being hugged by a Taurean. But I don't think we would ever have it any other way. ;-)

Lunar Taureans are even worse. ;-)

Hee, hee, Hail Eris! Glad to know the holy chao is now represented in astrology! We used to go to the Pantheacon convention in San Jose and always made a point of attending the discordian mass which culminates in a eucharist of twinkies and tang. One year they advertised that they were going to do it 'sky-clad'...turns out they had these robes made of this blue flannel printed with clouds...it was funny to see a couple of hard-core wiccans show up sans clothing thinking that that's what was meant...LOL, that goddess can be such a trickster...

Oh, Tseka, I wish I could consciously turn that time thing off and on. It's happened a couple of other times, but never as dramatically as that. I think part of my 'quest' in this life is to find out more about it and perhaps gain some insight...and yeah, Joe, I too suspect that time is getting a little stretchy these days.

Taurus...my first husband, the musician, was a Taurus, but I don't remember much...about any of it really, says a lot about our lifestyle then, I suppose :) I do have one good Taurus friend tho, she was born on an eclipse and her life seems to go from one crisis to another...but in the midst, she is a rock, always going out of her way to take care of others...one of those moms with four kids of her own and no money, but she and her husband would take in the other neighborhood kids who had families who neglected or ignored them. Lots of love and food to go around...

If'n ya want to look at the 'plate of jello's' chart, jm & co, it's 7/11/62, 3:24 pm, sacramento,CA. He's really not so bad. All of my scorpio-influenced mates have gone into their 'dark place' from time to time, but usually their obstinence and oneryness pulls them out of it after a bit. The cancer also makes this one pretty responsible, it never goes so far as to damage the family. And he does have Saturn on his midheaven right now, lots of responsibility, lots on his plate for sure (and I'm afraid I sometimes play the grasshopper to his ant). Now, on the other hand I had a very brief relationship with a pisces, now THAT was trippy, he was a drama addict, and not really having ANY emotional constancy whatsoever from day to day wore me out pretty quickly. Didn't last long as relationships go...

think stepping outside of time happens in extreme fear/survival situations. People in accidents describe this. And states of shock have it.

After a motor bike spill long ago, I don't know where I was but voices sounded like they were on a tape recorder. And faces were there but far away.

Juno, that's hysterical about the sky-clad mass! :o)

I must have some significant Taurus somewhere in here because I do like my fine wine, coffee, food, and other sensual pleasures like flannel sheets in winter.

NEO!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!
OMG this is wonderful.
Welcome taurus, you are right about the hugs, my taurus brother and beloved could HUG, and i could melt just in anticipation of it...and cooking was prefomance art. They both loved to build, music, my brother was a sax player, jazz, and dance, see all my favorite stuff.

They both could tell some tall tales real whoppers, some would say lies but their eyes would always give 'em away. They claimed i have hard edges (not a hedgeclipper tongue) it was the disbeliving stare, i guess it kind of shrivels one....

Well here's a hug NEO, welcome, it's a bit on the bony side, sag sun puts lots of enthusiasm into tho.

You remind me that Sag, Taurus and Scorpio have some soul connection according to Alice Bailey, i plan to get to that this winter when things slow down some, find out more.

BTW you can get charts from Neith of all of us if you are interested.

Juno! skyclad, twinkies and tang? OMG we've missed you!

Ja the time stretching, it's something more frequent now in my life and somewhat controllable i'm discovering, just as it was when i was young.

Joe! honey, flannel sheet are an absolute must! Skip the wine, the food can be plain, but the sheets must be flannel and the coverlet down. Adding a cat can be nice too.

ps I'm DONE framing only one mre if i decide...wahoo. now a couple days of slower pace, and the sky is crysal clear deep blue and the air is cool...i survivied.

Tseka! so good to know you have almost completed your framing . . . at least for the time being. With these long complicated undertakings, one must find a different way to mark end points or go nuts!! BTW, we are FINALLY getting some real rain here, the soaking in kind. First since June & most welcome . . . I overslept w/the cool moist air flowing in. delicious . . .

Neo!!! So glad you found your way here to jm's! Just so you know, both Pat P & I have Chiron closely conjunct our suns & here is a link to more on Chiron as Scout Planet:

"Time for philosophy, mythology astrology, and cooking!"

Ha ha Nope, one could wish. My wood guy turned up needing money his alternator "is busted" so i have a cord of wood sitting on my driveway and another one coming so i'll be stacking wood. 2 cords, looks good though. He went to Kansas spent a year and came back - being poor in Kansas apparently is not so great, the money goes farther but no amount of money makes up for being poor with hot, buggy, humid summers.

I admire you, Tseka... when I was doing art in school, framing and matting were always my most dreaded tasks. I can't cut anything straight...my mattes always looked as if I'd had hired a blind man with severe palsy and a drinking problem. I think that's one of the reasons I got into batik and folk art, less formal presentation involved...Are you still coming up to La Conner for that show?
Hey jm, last I looked, you posted about throwing a halloween party last nite (seems to be gone now...)...that would be a coooool idea! And with virtual costumes! What a hoot! I could come as the Chrysler Building or the Atlantic Ocean! Really frees one up for creativity...:)
You guys are so much fun!

no amount of money makes up for being poor in the midwest:)!! Even in Sacramento, we could take a bus down to swimming holes along the American river...there's just more here to enjoy, money or no.

Getting the wood thing going ourselves. Looking forward to fall...

Ha ha ha ha ha!

WE'RE fun? You're the fun loving Leo. So glad you're back.

I'll put the Halloween party back up!

I was thinking of having one sooner though. Either this Sat. or next. I want to make sure everyone's available.

Stacking wood? Great exercise, as if you need any more!

Say hello when you get a break in this maddening schedule.

I can be poor anywhere. Learned behavior.

Don't like humidity, though. Too many bugs and I've stopped killing horesflies.

Yeah, I trash the midwest on occasion, but it's toungue in cheek, really. There are some amazingly beautiful places in the world that DON"T have mountains :). But I agree about the humidity. And the winters don't thrill me either...although I shouldn't talk, after all I probably had it easy in IL as opposed to what poor Joe must get up in Minnesota...Our wind chills were a tropical 20-40 below, as opposed to the 80 or 90 below they get up there from time to time...

grew up in upstate NY which is just like the Midwest. But after being in the West I can't imagine anyplace else. The freedom from mugginess is delicious.

I still get disgusted when I remeber the fly paper in our kitchen!

whew! a break for ice water. The graphic's studio and this box is conveniently located next to the wood pile.

I'm completely with you on the matting Juno. The worst part of the job i can paint a whole piece in the time it takes to mat and frame.

Yes, i'll be in LaConner next weekend on Saturday afternoon. Come if you can bring that beautiful Eric (do i remember your son's name?) and the plate of Jello, i'd be trilled beond words. Wish Neith could make it over too. Well everybody in fact and all your friends and relatives, ya'll come now ya hear!

I got into my first Mars in Libra quarrel and it was surprisingly mild.
It was about Bin Laden and killing him. I mentioned the fact that the word 'kill' has gone into 'overkill'. People are so unthinking in how they bandy these words about. They go into the atmosphere and collect.

The fact that the argument lost steam quickly tells me something. Maybe they really ARE tired of recommending murder.

jm, La Conner is on(or near, haven't been yet, just passed the signs...)Puget Sound about half-way between the Seattle sprawl and Bellingham.
Tseka, about what time does it happen on the 23rd? I'd love to come down. bringing my son would be fun (the name is correct..), and i'll see if the 'jello crab' wants to come along, but he's got his best friend coming up from CA that week for his 40th birthday (checked his chart once, I don't think I know anyone else who's SO virgo :)...) and they're likely to want to go off and do boy stuff together, like golfing, watching football, peeing in the woods, that sort of thing... so I'll invite them, but who knows...

Jello crab. That's good.

My raging lion had an art gallery in Bremerton. He never stopped talking about Washington. he loved it.
There are unique spirits there and I'm interested in them. The ones which are out there now influencing the current environment.
