For Our Fashion Lovers.

Elegant cyclist, Maurice Aron, shows off his costume that won him the first place wreath in the New York Evening Telegram's 1896 parade.

Very very nice, Maurice.

I assume this is because it's Fashion Week in New York?

Ol' Maurice is a snappy dresser, non?

Though he doesn't really look very comfortable. You can tell that I'm heading for cronehood because I really believe in comfortable clothes. And I seem to have totally lost interest in clothes. I'll spend scads of money on books and music without batting a lash, but clothes? It's a once a year thing for me.

Oh darn -- thought I was gonna be the first on this thread. I haven't had the time -- or something -- before to jump over here from PiChron -- thought I had, but it all looks so fresh and new -- but anyway it's a blast! Love the images -- well, the washer/dryer don't do much for me, though I admit they are elegant in a Virgo sort o way -- and the words. They remind me how much I loved wearing the shirt I found a few years ago with BIG sunflowers on it, until I had to give up on the extra large sizeness of it. Yeah, I love to dress up, and I think the macho guys are missing out on some great fun.
Way to go, jm (and everybody). I'll be back more often (hopefully).

He's quite dapper, jm. And has his own bike! (whatta catch...:) )

I'm with ya there, Casey. And also agree with jm: comfy clothes, comfy shoes are absolutely nescessary. Even in my skinnier years, most fashionable clothes just didn't fit me. If I had been a male, I'da played football or something, I got shoulders you can hoist a volkswagon on...

My favorite dress ever I picked up from a thrift store in the Bay area. It was one of those 1950's 'squaw' dresses, vaguely based on the dresses worn by southwestern indian women with the tiered dirndl skirts trimmed out with lots of silver braid. I wore that everywhere for years until it finally fell apart. I think I liked it so much because it was so full and girly, the skirt would twirl out into a circle if I got it going fast enough...:).

Much prefer Maurice's outfit (practical with no loose trouser cuffs to catch in the chain) to today's guys covered in in lycra and advertising.

Last night at a concert (Takas String Quartet -- brlliantly playing Bartok, Mozart (in D minor) and Brahms) there was a man near me in an orange sweater that was so seductive. He had dark coloring and set off the orange perfectly. What about color in terms of fashion, choice, etc.? I think I'm entering a black phase for winter (though today I'm wearing pink, green and blue). Black not for any grim mood, but perhaps as a kind of simplicity, a standing back? I kind of imagine Maurice in various shade of cream and buff. . .

jm and anyone else interested, here's my birth info:

04/27/78 09:46 AM EST (non-daylight)
Akron, Ohio

The daylight savings time issue (EDT) sort of threw me for a loop when I finally figured out that it didn't begin in Ohio that year until April 30. Until then, I was assuming that it was already in effect, throwing off my chart by one hour. 1978 was a strange year for that, I guess.

For a long time I believed that my natal Moon was in my 7th house, but it is actually in my 6th.

juju, I've been thinking for awhile that when Pluto enters Capricorn, we may see a movement back to more formal attire. Actually, it's happening now to some extent, if you check the retail ads. Wal-Mart of all places recently decided to start carrying suits. Eventually, it might become cool to dress up, just to go out in public. Maybe we'll see the return of formal restaurants? Certainly, ballroom dancing is making a comeback in a very big way.

On the other hand, I'm told that Neptune actually rules fashion, which still in Aquarius would tend to produce some rather shocking styles. Where I live, it seems like just about every young male is drooping his pants down to the knees and wearing extremely long fruit of the loom undershirts. It's a hip-hop trend apparently, but for as much money as the artists make pressing their own clothing lines, it seems like they'd be taking quite a hit with the popularity of such a low maintenance style.

One piece I read suggested that when Saturn reaches Scorpio, with mutual reception while Pluto is in Cap, we'll have something of a "Neo-Victorian" age. That's a scary thought in a way, knowing what the supressed sexuality that those transits suggest tends to do to people, but with Neptune also at home in Pisces during the same period, we may also see some very creative styles and expressions come out of it.

Sunflowers?

Welcome and make yourself at home. Cancer men are the best. Your spirits should be lifting momentarily and staying there.

We've earned some good time.

juju, I'd love to delve into the color discussion. I like orange.

Black is really interesting. I'm a winter type and I look great in black.

I don't think black is grim. In some cultures. white is the color of death.

Everybody has something different to say about this noncolor, but to me. it represents elegance, formality and the night, diminishing of excess, and even maybe peacefulness. Also possibility.

I love black floors in kitchens, although impractical.

It's very easy on the eye, and I agree with you about simplicity.

I've started wearing more black the last couple of years even though I need to make sure there is color near my face as it's not really the best color for me. But I like the versatility.

Funny you should mention orange . . I'm wearing a reddish orange shirt today! After years of not wearing pink, I've started wearing it. It was a rebellion against the whole blonde's look good in pink thing. Warm greens, muted turquoise, clear aqua blue, warm browns, rust/orange, warm blues(as in lavender undertones) . . . all good colors for me. I'm not into color or anything like that . . . :-)

I LOVE PINK!!!!!!!!

But purple is my all time favorite. I once went on one of my insane jags and dyed everything in my wardrobe I didn't like purple.

Purple and red together sent me to ecstatic heights.

Hey, I just realized my ASC progressed into Capricorn about the time I started moving more into darks & neutrals with bright accent colors! Also beginning to feel that old Cardinal Sign urge to get a move on surfacing! Zero degrees of a sign is the essence I believe I read somewhere.

I am entranced with the O degree factor, neith. It's the Raw Ace beginning. I have Mars at O Libra, and it's interesting with my late degree Aries rising and most of all, the SN in the 7th. I'm supposed to have mastered relationship and here I have to start over. But the new start is about ME in the relationships. No more self sacrifice.
YEEEEAAAAAAY!!!!!!

Just wait till all the Cardinal kicks in. Are we gonna ever move! First Pluto will square my Mars. That's why I'm enjoying myself while I can!
Your Libra's gonna get a kick for sure.

Tell me more about the 0 degreee.

More info on critical degrees which includes 0 degrees . . . merc in Scorp with time on her hands . . . research calls!! That info on Avatar degrees is fascinating too!

Equinox and Solstice Points
Foremost among these permanent critical degrees are 0 degrees of the signs Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. The Sun crosses these points on the first days of spring, summer, fall and winter, respectively. Since life on planet Earth is tied to the seasons and our yearly cycles, these points are intimately connected with our lives at a basic biological level. Any planet that crosses 0Ar00, 0Cn00, 0Li00 or 0Cp00 will also unleash powerful Earth energies. These 4 points are sometimes called cardinal points or quarter points.

Avatar Points
Halfway between the equinox and solstice points are another group of critical degrees in the signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. The points 15Ta00, 15Le00, 15Sc00 and 15Aq00 are collectively known as Avatar Points. They are considered to be degrees where important spiritual influences enter the Earth plane and our lives. Planets moving across these Avatar Points will trigger the release of these influences.

Cool thread, so to speak. My guilty TV pleasure is Project Runway, but I watch very little TV.

As for black, I wear a lot of it, particularly anything black that has a very subtle design/pattern on it. All my clothes come from thrift stores, too, because you find stuff no one else has. If I meet someone that I will be around for a while (at work, for example) who has the same shirt or sweater, I'll get rid of the offending outfit rather than look like I'm copying them.

Very interesting statement joe. With your Gemini rising and all. More on this later. Saturn in the 1st and the importance of your own identity.

I also get my clothes in the thrift stores, for that reason. Uniqueness and variety.
On my artist's budget I have never been able to shop in department stores and it's like an alien landscape to me with all the garments looking alike hanging together, sad, lonely, and uninspiring. A few items look good, though. And I study collars when I pass through.

The biology of the O makes a lot of sense, neith. And the magnitude of change.

I think Maurice's cross tie jacket is quite nice. Could be the style of the time, but a helluva job to get dressed.

The curve of the jacket is an age old line still used today to frame the pelvic region beautifully. As a sometime seamstress I have worked a lot with the jacket cut.

Hahaha oh my, you all tickle me so...

Colour! i love it all, red and violet oolala! jm one of my faves.

Violet, cobalt these are my real loves.

Bright and clear colour is a real pleasure.

i just discovered that kids clothes actually fit a lot better than women's so i have be getting some wonderful fun flamboyant nickers, tees and shorts in bright colors from the kid department in Target. Pretty well made and cotton to boot.
And knickers because, well kids just aren't quite tall enough but then neither is the small women's for my long legs. I guess we can all complain that clothes are too generic and sized for the middle ranges.

I've seen some similar to the the cut of that jacket too. One of my favorite catalogs to wander through is JJill (they are online too). They have some very creative designers. I had a thought for a loose casual coat sweater that incorporated a scarf effect in the shawl collar & lo & behold, it shows up in their catalog for this Fall. If a person can have really well fitted clothing, you might as well go for the comfortable!!

Violet is my absolute favorite. It combines the red and purple I love so much.

I love jjill too...but most of my clothes come from target too. The exercise department -- I love yoga pants. Black yoga pants.

But my favorite color (and has been since a teenager before I knew the astrology of it) is blue-green -- sea-green. I know, such a Pisces color.

Most of the colors I wear though are muted or deep. I have fair, freckled skin with (naturally) strawberry blonde hair. Light colors wash me out.

I have been drooling over an "Isabella Bird" catalog which is fairly upscale for me. I'm thinking a couple of long sweater coats in pretty plummy colors would be nice for winter.

The colors of oil paints are especially rich. I think they still make them out of the original substances if I'm not mistaken, and they're bound by a long tradition of excellence. They have a lot of depth.

People can get pure pigment in the form of dry powders, then mix with linseed oil as desired. They were as close to pure color as an artist could get.

A teacher turned me on to using oil sticks -- oil paint in nearly solid form, wrapped in an outer tube. Easy to carry, quick to use and clean up. And the smell is mild compared to liquid oil paint.

I used to sketch visions with them.

Blogger jm said...

I like the smell of oil paint but I don't work with it. Could be too much. I lived with an oil painter for many years.

It evokes a huge mixture of feelings. There is a lot of comfort in the smell knowing the creative process is active.
