A New Dawn

I ate too many baked nacho cheese tortilla chips (they were delicious) at a party last night, so I might not eat too much for breakfast today. A tiny taste of this lemon cake would be wonderful though. Please help yourself.

I was delighted to find that instead of weariness after this six year trip through hell on earth in this country, that the people were inspired, chattering about the future, and deeply interested in the things we can do to improve our government as soon as possible.
A light breakfast, some deep rich dark coffee, a relaxing Sunday, and I'll be ready to face the future with enthusiasm. Looking forward to it.
A great week to everybody!

I've been so happy and relieved since the elections. I hadn't quite realized what an immense strain these six years have been on the psyche.

It's going to evolve more and more as we leave this behind. there is a lot to process and a lot to do. It's absolutely amazing.

This experience has been extremely painful for me. I was in physical pain the entire time, and in ways, I wasn't myself as I actually started believing some of the conspiracy madness. Well, maybe not, but I felt the collective fear. The terror. The entrapment. And the interpersonal ugliness was perhaps the worst for me. The out of control hatred.

Even though I knew at the last election that the neocons were finished, it still hurt. Now the relief is really starting to take hold. There won't be any magic solutions to our deep problems but we are free from the immediate sickness. we'll slowly heal.

The most important thing now is to stay completely mindful of this eliminating process while Jupiter finishes in Scorpio. Then we can gradually think about what's ahead and make plans. It will effect our personal lives.

A big transition is underway. We can finish this purge trying not to go after too much revenge and blame, and keep regrets at a minimum. It all had to be.

And everyone or no one is to blame.

In terms of the investigations ahead, they are for the purpose of getting our bearings and the steering under control. To ascertain exactly what happened and what to do. The new accountability and oversight.

Henry Waxman with the Government Reform Committe has jurisdiction over everything. He says:

Congress must restore accountability and function as an independent branch of government. It’s our obligation not to be repeating what the Republicans have done

The new thing is the power of the people watching the politicians. We've become the new vigilantes. Washington has been getting away with this for a long time and the people finally caught on. Corruption is the main concern.

This is our job now. Not to take our eyes off them and to keep the pressure relentless. They finally have to do what we say as our employees. The sooner we step into this responsibility, the better off our country will be.

However, if we allow this particular present-time group of crazies to walk away without consequences, it loudly signals to the next group of crazies that whatever they do is okay & there'll be no consequences... at every level of society. That couldn't possibly happen, joanna. Justice will happen automatically. There's IS a lot to do for sure. Most important is to prevent it from happening again. We have to keep in mind that we the people are at fault too.

Democrats, who won majorities in the U.S. Congress in last week's elections, said on Sunday they will push for a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq to begin in four to six months.

Just as important as the consequences for the criminals is the grip everybody needs to get on the out of control hate. You can stare at these people day in and day out and scream hysterically for blood posting a million agonizing comments, or you can get out of Iraq, start spending our tax money wisely, start showing the people of America what good governance looks like.

I noticed that you were paying attention to that. It is rather compelling, the survival-oriented atavistic fear. But true to your inner intelligence, you freed yourself in due course.

I would like to post some extended quotations about good governance that were said by someone who has been in the news recently. Shall I do it here in this thread?

One of the most important things to do now is move on the fundamental change that is taking place in this country as it moves from conservatism to progressive political policy. The election was fascinating in what it revealed about this. Liberalism is becoming the new center. Society's needs always determine the government of the time. The big issue of taxation is forthcoming.

* When cheney woke up on Wed mourning, his entire world had changed. The House/Senate was in control of the Democrats, bush Senior’s buddy Robert Gates had taken over at the Pentagon, & his most-trusted ally, Don Rumsfeld, had been thrown overboard.

Cheney knows that the story about a “Democratic sweep” is utter nonsense. He knows who operates the voting machines & how get the results he wants. The normal procedures for rigging the election were simply put on hold. He also knows that the Justice Dept had sent out over 80 attys to various parts of the country where the Republicans anticipated legal challenges after the elections, but there were no legal challenges. Someone decided that there would be no fight at all, even in the close senatorial races where recounts might have made a difference. ... http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article15582.htm

Hating people is like burning down your own house to get rid of a rat. -- Harry Emerson Fosdick

Sometimes people can become our enemies because they are part of a cause or movement with which we disagree, perhaps even to the point of despising the movement's supporters. It's difficult to separate people from causes. If the cause is our enemy, individuals easily become personifications of the cause; and human as we are, we find emotional relief in having a person on whom to concentrate our anger instead of something so nebulous as a point of view... It is good to be concerned about causes and issues, it is dangerous and destructive to allow a cause to make someone our enemy. -- J. Ellsworth Kallas

As Pluto finishes in Sagittarius one of the real battles which will heat up is the big one between the pessimists and the optimists.

Both are absolutely necessary.

The pessimist/cynics survive by protecting themselves from disappointment by not expecting things to be good, and clinging to the past mistakes as a model of the future.
The opitimist/idealists survive by envisioning an improvement. Disappointment is acceptable as part of this view.

Both are perfectly valid.

I'm an optimist and do admit to some anxiety being injected with cynical fear. I will adjust and try to balance these polarities. My only request is that attention to facts is maintained as much as possible. And even, heaven willing, some empirical proof.

So then, let's try for a moment to look more closely at a person sans personifications. :-) We must look to his words and deeds over time.

While speaking of the hope of restoring vision and changing direction, in a political world of hasty sound bites and cardboard personas, we can indulge for a few minutes the thoughts of a man who gave himself time to think and to feel.

First, some background.

Over a year ago, in 2005, Robert Michael Gates declined an offer to become Director of National Intelligence. He said that he "had nothing to look forward to in D.C. and plenty to look forward to at A&M." Initially, he had tentatively accepted, and was composing a poignantly worded e-mail to the students of Texas A&M to say, "For now, though, I only wanted you to know that this appointment was due to no initiative of mine, that the decision was wrenching, and that I can hardly bear the idea of leaving Aggieland." But then he took a walk, and seated on a bench in the night, he weighed his feelings and the value of the university. He told the students, "I realized, sitting there alone in the dark, brushing away tears, how much I had come to love Texas A&M, all it stands for, and all it can become. And I knew at that moment I could not leave."

And yet, nominated to serve as U.S. Secretary of Defense, he may soon be leaving his position as head of an institution of higher learning. Critics denounce his nomination because of past controversy. He was suspected to have lied to Congress, and was accused of cooking intelligence for political reasons, though many at the time believed him to be a victim of circumstance. Despite the cloud of suspicion, some critics still find hope in that he is at least not Rumsfeld, though they note darkly that he was, as a member of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, intriguingly well placed for his new advancement.

According to a profile in U.S. News & World Report, "Friends and coworkers have described him as tenacious and driven, with tremendous powers of concentration and an ability to distill vast amounts of information." He has been described as a low-key congenial pragmatist, able to listen to many points of view.

Perhaps you Raging Universe folks can read a little more deeply into his personality and character, as the public wonders if his words and deeds reflect his heart.

Resonant with recent aspects, especially the exquisite transit of Mercury across the solar disk on the very day of his nomination, he natally has the Sun, Mercury, and Neptune conjoined within the first two degrees of Libra, and generally in aspect to Saturn in Gemini. He has natal Saturn very precisely opposite GC and the transiting Pluto. The transiting Moon passed over his Saturn on the day of his nomination. He has the Moon, North Node, Pluto and Jupiter in Leo; Mars, Uranus, Saturn in Gemini; and Venus in Virgo. One source gives his birthdate as 9/24/1943, another gives it as 9/25/1943.

Following are some of his expressed ideas.

Four years ago, in his first 2002 Convocation address, he said, "Over the years, I have told young people never to underestimate the power of serendipity -- of fate -- in their lives. I’m still not entirely sure how I came to be on this platform at this time for this purpose. The last thing I recall was telling the outgoing chairman of the board of regents in June of 2001 that there was no way on earth that I would consider being a candidate for president of a university, even Texas A&M."

Four months ago, August, 2006, he said to the incoming freshmen, "I have thought often over the last three years whether it is better to lead Texas A&M or to have led the Central Intelligence Agency. I have come down firmly on the side of Texas A&M, partly because the CIA doesn't have a band, or a football team. I also sometimes ask myself whether it is scarier to be responsible for several thousand clandestine agents operating around the world, or to be responsible for 45,000 students between the ages of 18 and 25. But any doubt in my mind is resolved when I look at you, with your energy, enthusiasm and unlimited potential. Then it is crystal clear Texas A&M is the place to be -- for you and for me."

Then, two months ago, he sent into the world a pertinent message on leadership and governance.

At Academic Convocation, in September 2006, he spoke of leadership and governance from his perspective as the president of a university. His words illuminate the circumstances surrounding his nomination two months later.

Successful leadership involves in decision-making those who carry out the mission. Professionals outlast both good and bad leaders.

"Like many of our seniors, I did not graduate from Texas A&M at the end of my fourth year. In fact, I hope and plan to remain for three more years. Together, we already have accomplished much. But, there is still more to do. Together, we will make further progress in creating a culture of excellence. I stress the word “together” because the progress we are making is the result of an extraordinary team of people pulling together: the faculty, our students, the Provost and his staff, deans and their staffs, the vice presidents and their staffs. I get a lot of attention as the conductor of this terrific orchestra, but we all know the music really is made by our many talented faculty, administrators and staff, along with our students. Long after my time here has passed, remarkable faculty, administrators, and staff will remain, committed to the goals we set in 2002 -- and to the collective effort truly to create a culture of excellence here. It is this essential continuity in a great university that brings me to my final subject -- governance.
"It is a fact of life in institutions that leaders come and go. Sometimes when they leave, there is regret among the professionals and staff who remain. More often, the celebrations begin before the departing executive’s taillights are out of sight. Some leaders arrive with ambitious agendas and seek to impose them by fiat -- unilaterally and from above. They usually provoke either paralyzing opposition and internal warfare, or see the reversal of every action immediately after their departure. We can all think of specific examples of both at other universities over the last year or two.
"What, then, is the formula for successful leadership in public institutions, above all a great university? I believe it begins with a leader’s recognition that his or her time in office is finite and that the institution and those who carry out its mission endure. They were there long before the leader arrived, and will be there long after he or she departs. Whether at CIA or at a university, the professionals outlast both good and bad leaders.
"I have long believed that the secret to successful leadership of public institutions -- especially in leading change -- is the involvement in decision-making of those who carry out the institution’s mission: involvement in setting the agenda, involvement in shaping options, involvement in decisions, and involvement in implementation.
"To this end, over the past four years, we have bolstered some longstanding collaborative structures and created new ones to strengthen shared governance at Texas A&M. We have tried new approaches to engagement and to openness."

Shared governance -- based on transparency, open discussion, and mutual respect -- is necessary to a culture of excellence

He outlined successful innovations, and noted that "Students at Texas A&M have a significant voice -- and influence -- in every decision I have made that even remotely affects them." But he also candidly pointed out areas needing improvement. He closed with thoughtful words highlighting the crucial importance of transparency, debate and collaboration to good governance.

"Some may say that, with these measures, I am complicating management, slowing decision-making, and turning over to the faculty too much authority. Or, to put it crassly, some might say I am putting “the inmates” in charge. To that, I say “baloney”! (Actually, that’s not what I really say, but it’s what I have to say here.)
"Giving those responsible for carrying out the mission of this university an assured opportunity and assured venues to offer advice and to influence decisions on the management and direction of this institution is just plain common sense -- at the department, college and university level. Department heads, deans and the president and provost must, and will, continue to make the final decisions. But those decisions will be better, and be better understood and supported, if transparency, discussion and debate, communication, and collaboration precede them.
"Shared governance based on those principles -- transparency, open communication and discussion, and mutual respect -- establishes the healthy and open environment necessary for creating a culture of excellence in all we do and for our further enduring improvement as a university.
"And, if shared governance is properly practiced, as a departing president’s taillights fade from view, campus celebrations may be delayed just a few minutes as a gesture of respect from those faculty and staff who have devoted their lives to a great university.
     "Thank you."

The culture of excellence remedies the culture of corruption

In a much earlier speech delivered October 3, 2002, he warned, "When we see political leaders lying under oath and going to jail for corruption, when we see the resulting cynicism of many Americans about the character of their elected officials, I believe we as a people have a problem. All of these liars and cheats and thieves are graduates of our universities. The university community cannot avert its eyes and proclaim that this is not our problem, that there is nothing we can do, or that these behaviors are an aberration from the norm."
"...Too many examples in too many areas of American life of a lack of integrity, of character -- of what once was called personal honor -- have begun to erode the trust that is the foundation of democracy and a market economy.
"John Adams wrote, “the preservation of liberty depends upon the intellectual and moral character of the people. As long as knowledge and virtue are diffused generally among the body of a nation, it is impossible they should be enslaved.” And Benjamin Franklin wrote, “only a virtuous people are capable of freedom.” Universities cannot abdicate their responsibility to inculcate in students, faculty, administrators and staff ethical behavior and personal integrity -- and to teach the importance of those qualities to an individual and to a nation. There is no university, no college, no major, no course, that does not offer countless opportunities to foster and to teach ethical behavior and integrity -- and the consequences of their absence. We must regain and renew our commitment to the overriding importance of basic values and principles.
"Most universities take seriously their responsibility to examine social pathologies and suggest remedies. Widespread lying, cheating and stealing -- and resulting public resignation to and cynicism about such behaviors -- represent an insidious social pathology. This university -- and others -- must do more to teach about the consequences for society of such pathology, and to teach the remedy. The remedy is greater emphasis in our universities on ethical behavior and personal integrity -- at school and in life."

The transformative heart creates the culture of excellence and integrity

A year later, in 2003, he said, "During the presidential search process a year ago last spring, I told you that if you wanted the status quo, you had the wrong person. I told you I would be an agent of change. Well, today, change is afoot in every corner of the university, from the corps of cadets to the faculty to the administration to athletics. All with the purpose of creating a culture of excellence.
"What, then, is the state of the university? It is in a state of dramatic change, of aspiration, of hope, of building and re-building.
"President Harry Truman once said "Every great achievement is the story of a flaming heart." Let the word go out from this place today that the hearts of Aggies are aflame, and our great achievement will be a university that in all its parts is worthy of our heritage and our mission. A university with a culture of excellence and integrity -- and a spirit -- others can only aspire to emulate."

One more little thing before I'm off.

The Diebold Dragon is dead.

Cosmic forces and collective destiny always trump individuals. Always. They are not in charge of the universe. The players are instruments of the collective and the infinite universe.

I made one big mistake as an astrologer in the last election because I let my personal desires lead.
No matter what anyone says about the voting machines there was no way in the world george bush could have been defeated with Saturn retrograde in Cancer during the last election. The insecurity was too deep. The inability to go forward clear. I couldn't face it, but now I've learned.

The same with this last election. collective need. And the exact same thing will determine the next election.

Not the voting machines or individual people.

My sister knows a therapist who happens to be psychic. The psychic foresaw Bush continuing to be in office after the 2004 presidential election. She said that very early in that year. (Although, the previous fall she had said there was an opening for someone new, and that she could not then see who it might be. Perhaps the opening had vanished after the primaries.) She had previously said, following the 2003 invasion of Iraq, that the nation's military troops would be in Iraq for years. She sighed deeply and said it would be very hard. We've never bothered to ask her more about it. :-)

Regarding Gates, it gets tedious to try to know about people through the screens and filters of political speculations. Neocon pawn or reluctant man of integrity called back to government service? Perhaps it doesn't matter, so long as the "anti-Rumsfeld" changes the perilous command climate imposed by Rumfeld on the Pentagon.

Whether or not Gates bent principles in the past, arguably he sounded happy and deeply engaged at the university. His thoughts seem exemplary of Libran perspective. On a hopeful note, some astrologers believe more generals are born under Libra than under any other sign. So, I hope he manages well the challenge laid on his shoulders, and can someday with integrity intact return to the kind of life he declared that he had come to enjoy more.

Kad, I'm going to study this and I'm so glad you posted. The Libra factor is the key and the Mars retro progression in Libra ruling our military. It's instinct for a person to want to do well, be respected, and leave a good legacy. They get corrupted in the halls of power of course, but not everybody completely. the most corrupted will fail. It's pure science.

The whole Libra equilibrium factor will start to emerge. The more I look at this, the more it makes sense.

It is absolutely imperative to try to see the facts and not follow this extreme manipulative emotionalism that has ruled the day recently. And cheap journalism, the down side of the Net. We must learn discernmant as a whole.

I'm so glad you brought this up and I hope we can pool our knowledge and insight to take a clear look at this man and all the new leaders coming in.

We have to support someone, so we should be as accurate as possible. And it IS possible.

We as a society will have to grow up.

Billmon sums it up for me pretty well.Flashback

A Bush in the White House, the Democrats in control of the House and Senate, Jimmy Baker, Robert Gates and now Larry Eagleburger making U.S. foreign policy, the neocons in retreat and the Sandinistas back in power in Nicaragua.

I feel like I stepped into a political time warp and came out in 1989.

It is my observation that a person my exhibit qualities of high character in one poition and be a disappointment in another.

Having lived through the Bush 41 CIA secret wars / Iran contra / hostages not to mention close association with Milosevic ...with these very same players as the strategists, i'm not in a trusting mood.

(i tend to take a view that not returning to a husband that beat you is wise, even if it appears he has reformed, it can be a combination of dynamics that starts the script re-running.)

The military newspapers that called for the dismissal of Rumfeld spoke to his inability to lead, his failed strategy.

Baker as senior council to Carlyle Group has had his alternative agenda waiting in the wings for quite some time.

My two or three cents.

I can point out that this goes all the way back to the Imperial Cult, these divisions and tactics have been plaguing humanity for a couple of thousand years. My hope is that this is a chance for US to really make a move to bring a new future into being. The US is modern and risk taking in so many ways, pioneering, it's been a mystery to me how the conservative stay the course has been so successful. A more plastic model for these quickly shifing times would serve so much better. It would seem that is the task that lies ahead. Convincing the public that change is positvie instead of equating change and fear would be a good start for whatever party wants to remain viable in a rapidly changing world.

The other is Pluto just two years from the end of this big transit. something will be resolved with his departure.

They have succeeded as much as they have by manipulating the public. The belief in their false omnipotence is their greatest asset. This is where we can bring them down for good. Take a real hard look at their impotence. You'll see it.

The Cancer stellium will be gettting hit by Pluto immediately as it goes into Cap. All cardinal. All initiation of change.

This is the time for women in this country. As Nancy Pelosi rises to power. Aside from her politics, she represents the strength of women with Sun/Jupiter in Aries and Moon in Scorpio. And it's our chance to get in touch with our own.

This is nothing like before. Nothing like women's liberation. This is the most powerful position a women has ever held and she's playing a man's game. True to Aries. She's not outside looking in, as was the case before, burning bras and carrying signs, writing books, but center stage, right in with the boys. It will be fascinating.

It could be interesting JM to watch the Pelosi / Hillary dynamic. Two women who define and use power quite differently.

If you could, I'd be interested in your insights as to how they both use their power.

I'm starting to get very very excited. The energy is coming in. Oppression lifting.

As a Aries type woman doing a one "man" show I've been waiting for the full force of the strength it will take. Solo and not like other women performers. I feel it rising! Getting into the atmosphere.

USA Venus (3 Cancer) will be the first Planet hit by Pluto. Transformation anyone?

Nancy Pelosi, in the heat of this election, made time to be with her daughter who was giving birth, her priorities are clear to her.
She is mother of 5 children, raised them before going into politics.

One of the things i remember when Clinton was running for Prez was a statement that Chelsea Clinton always went to her father, he was the nurturer and caregiver, even while he was govenor. Hillary was out making land deals.

In a somewhat simplistic way i see that this defines the differences between their approach to governing each takes. One asks what is good for my family (and the greater family) one asks what is the better move for my career.

A lot of women in our generation have had to face these very questions. Isn't it curious how even though they each chose an opposite approach they ended up in the same place?

Another teensy thing.

My theory about bush with his Pluto on the asc and his hatred of his father, was that he came in to destroy all that his dad built. I think we are about to witness this. It's amazing with his father's people returning to try and resurrect.

Heavy karma with that man's Sun and saturn in cancer in the 12th.

The exact place remains to be seen.
That is fascinating and I know you're right about Hillary and her motherhood.

What is so incredible is the one who put the family priority 1st is the most powerful.

Not everyone can be a mighty Aries but just the example will be in plain sight. The Moon in Scorpio is the family protectiveness and what a good thought. The larger family.

Can you believe a mother of five at 66 years old can have this much vitality? Heavens.

Vigilance, this group of men are very good at what they do, very clever at subterfuge, and the public wants change but rarely sees beyond the fog of TV.

It's the dems to lose. And as you say the dems are deeply divided between the corporate gov /k-street operatives and the progressives.

On the other hand the theocrats which have been giving support to the republicans have just left them as a result of finally seeing the hypocrisy of their leaders, men like Haggert and Foley.

It's all disolving. The north node will transit the US south node wonder what that means?

And before we get there North Node and Uranus meeting in mid pisces will have a lot to say i'm sure.

Vigilance is oh so right.

One thing to keep in mind is that the money started leaving K Street a while back. There is division among the corporates too. Lots of it. Everybody grabbing everywhere all the time. Its own built-in checks and balances.

The NN to our Aquarius South might help us step away from foreign domination as has always been the case. We are destined to lead and chart our own path with the NN in Leo and get away from European control. We're far from ready, but in time we should get there. This Saturn transit has Helped.

The Uranus/NN coming up will square Jupiter in our 1st. A lot to say for sure. the dissolving will continue as the Neptune/Saturn ooposition also plays in. These people are finished for good.

The Jupiter in the 1st will be trying to get this country back to hope and her natural enthusiasm. The square to the nodes, I believe will manifest in a vacillation between despair and exhilaration as we can't see our path ahead yet. We will have to go on faith. What better thing for a Sag rising.
As the year ends there should be a solid hunk of optimism to grasp. Then Pluto will ride on out and leave us adequately transformed, identity wise.

One impression I get of Robert Gates is that he has a lot of pride and could easily want to look good. Perform well. Be admired. Adored.

Jupiter, Pluto, and the North Node in Leo idicate this strongly. Dat's a lotta Leo. In this Saturn in Leo time.
All sextile the Libra. There's even sometimes a White Knight characteristic with this kind of Leo and now would be his chance if so inclined.

I'm going to keep watching

He had previously turned down two job offers from the president. Newsweek has come out with an short item on him.

Truthful -- "Since retiring from public service in 1993, the career intelligence officer has shown a capacity to speak truth to Republican (and Democratic) power."

Deceptive -- "the boss knew how to spin raw intelligence into the kind of briefs politicians wanted to read."

And on his university's Web site, there's a video of him speaking before a university audience, at the end of which he segues from speaking smoothly on excellence at the university to recount with roughening voice his previous refusal of work in Washington, DC.

It will be interesting, assuming he gets the latest job, to see if he can sufficiently balance competing interests and demands. Idealism is often compromised by politics.

He's already dealt with a lot of this by making ethical choices along the way mixed with unethical behavior. He's older now. And he's loaded with Libra to help with balancing.

This could be interesting, and here's one possibility.

I noticed that a large part of the anti-bush electorate is so consumed with hatred that they want him to fail at all costs, even if the mayhem in Iraq continues. I was disturbed to see this in '04. People wanted the bombings to continue to lower his poll numbers.

It could be that this man, if he's in, will do a good job therefore teaching people something about this extreme polarity. What if bush gets out looking better? People are afraid of this. But if the murder ends on the Euphrates, I will be glad. I don't care who solves the dilemma. The sooner the better.

An end to partisan insanity would be a great by-product, although I know success at this part would be limited. But it will have to come eventually.

He could be part of the bridge.

I think the upshot of all of this is the realization that some of the nonsense will have to end. We have big problems that need attention. Professional help has to be called in. Probably Rove and his games are over.

All the prelude to the serious times ahead with Pluto in Capricorn. We are starting to cross that bridge now. Transition time and changing of the guards.

I was always fascinated by Karl Rove's stellium in Capricorn and thought he was part of this bridge in a backassward way. By exposing what we can't continue to do. The extreme of immaturity.

"I was always fascinated by Karl Rove's stellium in Capricorn and thought he was part of this bridge in a backassward way."

Foolishly, he was fascinated by his own, ultimately limited, system of predicting the magnitude of Republican votes. He rejected the course corrections that the polls signaled, and he favored his broken tactics. And the president believed him over other advisors on the numbers until the last.

Surprising as it is to us, and to those who believe that the opposition is incredibly intelligent and competent, it explains why some GOP politicians seemed as shellshocked as they were on the day after the elections, struggling to adapt to what they must have felt was the unthinkable.

An old story, when people grow overconfident based on past successes, not recognizing that a past decision made in a defining moment of their careers, that brought them fame and power, is the wrong one in a new present.

It always figures in with Libra. And the balancing, decision making act he's always involved in.

But the interesting thing is his Jupiter, Pluto, and NN in Leo sextile the Libra. Very singular, confident, leaderlike. And with Saturn there now it's a good portent. Definitely bringing him into the spotlight, which he loves. Teaching was perfect but this is an expansion, so he might be interested. And Saturn is removing incompetents and replacing them with more serious leaders. His Leo stellium is topnotch. Pluto trine now.

I was never impressed with Rove. It makes no sense at all. That kind of sleazy game and extreme character assassination can only work short term. if he wanted permanent power, as he so often said, he was barking up the entirely wrong tree. Not smart.

I think long term power has to be based on trust and good works.

I think Gates would like to be the hero of the day, but I don't know if he can achieve that. It's very possible that the next president will be the one to get out of Iraq. Pluto at 29 Sag in '08.

The game has changed. All effort is going to be directed toward winning the WH and they will have to try and look good now. The effort to maintain power through terror and intimidation has failed miserably.

I had just read the Newsweek item on Rove's faulty predictions yesterday. I really didn't pay close attention to figures like Rove et al. previously. It's nice to see that the myth is bigger than the man in his case.

what a relief. He was the one that bothered me the most. I think the whole campaign tactic will go with him.

It will be interesting to see the remaking of bush's image. I wonder who will try to do it. The man is still bent on destruction. It is his birthright and he might at least achieve that. So our new political chapter can be written.

In general I find that society overlooks the advanced ones in all areas.

I think life is giving this country an opportunity to break this pattern and choose a more enlightened leader next as a contrast to the primitive dip we just took.

I don't know if we can accomplish this. All the ones grabbing desperately now are obviously after personal power. Not one damn one of them is interested in the welfare of the country. They are all in for surprises.

Pluto will be in Capricorn in the beginning of '08. Different atmosphere. So far, these fools don't fit.

"I think Gates would like to be the hero of the day, but I don't know if he can achieve that."

Yes. I find it interesting that he described his being torn between different professional worlds so intimately. The changed life elevated him above his past. Now he is being tested.

Though an imperfect figure, there is the hint of a more consolidated and clarified personality than, say, a Rove. So I wonder to what extent his task is quixotic, and what saving grace, even if that ends up being minimalist, he can muster to offer.

The Newsweek article gives an inside look at how incredulous he was at the incompetence demonstrated over Iraq. And it must surely have antagonized his desire for excellence.

Given how he turned down high government jobs several times since leaving Washington, D.C., he must have gotten comfortable in university life, free to express his ideas and to inspire the culture to harmony -- a positive use of his Sun-Mercury-Neptune conjunction in Libra.

"They are all in for surprises."

They imagine they are powerful, controlling events, surfing along, but in the end there are waves bigger than the individual actors on any side. The tsunami metaphor is apt. The political parties are caught in a co-evolutionary relationship, even as they stir the public consciousness for their own ends. I suppose that a few politicians must know that even if they don't talk about it.

Yes. I think some do. and as this era ends, they are probably aware of the opportunity. It's up to the society, but I think there's a chance the public will respond to competence. Katrina went deep into the psyche. The complete inattention to a whole country of people.

I think Gates will guard his reputation and I also think they chose him for help, not to continue the old game.
