The Workshop

This is the studio of Nancy Bauch, a sculptor in New York.
I've always admired artisans who work with their hands and construct three dimensional objects for our use. I love their workplaces. The buzz and clutter. Electronics shops are great too.

I would love to have a studio like that, full of natural light. As it is, I have to use a full-spectrum light bulb to ease the strain on my eyes when working on an egg.

This is such a perfect workspace, so full of good light. This time of year, I'm pretty dependant on good quality full-spectrum light bulbs too.

This studio is so neat & tidy it doesn't look like anyone's working there . . . probably neatened it up for the picture! I usually clean compulsively before starting a project but it's all downhill from there . . . :-)

Thank god there are others out there just like me! What i need to do this afternoon, clean the studio. I actually like it, somehow it starts the creative juices flowing. Messy is so discouraging to me.

I think all kinds of light work. It does make a difference, but there is something in the person that chooses which type. I love gels and stage lights. They're artificial but create an aura of their own.

Messy is so discouraging to me.

Not surprising with a Moon/SN in Virgo. The Moon is safety and confort so order is an inderlying necessity. Probably creating it is the pleasure.

I'm projecting here, but just looking at the images running through your blog, jm, I see this beautiful studio as a strong sign that you have made a space for getting down to deep creative work. There has been a lot of nourishment of the psyche here, and the image of the road as transition, with the roar of the restless lion stirring to life, and now a place to really go for it.
You go grrrrl!

I'm goin to reach for it. Been preparing for ages.

So good to see your moniker.

Jm and Kadimiros had a very interesting discussion a few threads back about creating at midnight and breath control etc, here is a man who creates micro-sculptures out of dust and carved sugar crystals. A barely believable expression of human ability -and he is dyslexic...humbling.

I want to know more about this guy. That is fascinating ...the midnite hour concentration.

I wonder what motivates him to do such an outrageously original thing like this. Who is he?

Thanks for this tseka.

How difficult is it to create the miniature art?

WW: Let me tell you, it's very difficult. Every movement I make is so small. I have to control my breathing and heartbeat - it's not easy! I usually work at night and have to make sure the dog isn't around.

small is beautiful

I wish i had been around for the conversation you and Kadimiros had on this. The timing elements in the human body how we synchronize to varrious rhythms, are endlessly fascinating to me. The Salish people i grew up with of course used drumming as healing tool. Some of it was dys-rhythmic. Our bodies mirror the day/night changes in an acid / alkaline tide change twice a day. I've found this important for prescribing, i don't know anyone else who does it but it makes sense to me and seems to work out more favorably....certain illnesses follow these patterns too.

Very very interesting. I didn't know this. I've been onto the acid/alk thing lately. I think it's extremely significant.

Drumming is quite the healing tool. The jerky patterns of our music in the last years have always indicated to me an underlying sickness.

Smoothness in rhythm has something to do with fluids. The shoulders of a drummer must be flexible and oiled.

I wonder if the acid/alk ratio affects this fluidity.

Or super high IQ. Did you know that very high IQ is associated with brain damage, birth trauma, pre-mature birth? Those with the highest IQs often suffer from a kind of autism.

Makes you wonder.

It's so fascinating. So much of our daily life is dumb, really. Maybe these superhumans aren't supposed to waste brain power on all of this.

The autism makes sense. The disconnect.

I wonder why on the scientists.

2/12/06 9:09 PM
Blogger kadimiros said...

Well, there are different kinds of scientists. But there might be common inherited tendencies that are good for researchers but iffy for relationships and communication.

They may heighten risk for autism, though I think the primary cause or causes could be elsewhere.

A recent study showed that among placentas saved by research hospitals, those from the births of autistic children were three times more likely to have abnormal microscopic pitting.

Because types of intelligence seem to run in families?

I've not heard of the scientist connection, intersting, i have read it prevails in the arts, this type of autism is perhaps just superacuity...

2/12/06 9:38 PM
Blogger jm said...

I think that's important. The type of autism. I'm still unsure as to what exactly goes wrong in the brain.

The mental patterns of the scientist parents is a repeat of my astrological knowledge about family patterns. It could be that this disconnect reaches fullness in the autistic child. Maybe diminishes in the line after that birth.

I worked with autistic kids when i was at university, then had a couple when i taught in Northern BC. Being in a group you realize how completely different and impossible to classifiy they are just as all children are.

The one thing which seems to come up over and over is the trauma connection. Intelligence as an outcome of trauma. You see this with CP too.

It seems that family lines have evolutionary lessons in total, unique to that line.

Here is an article about "systemizers" having autistic tendencies.

"In addition, students in the natural sciences have a higher number of relatives with autism than do students in the humanities, and mathematicians have a higher rate of autistic spectrum conditions compared with the general population.
"Other research has found both mothers and fathers of children with autism score highly on a questionnaire measuring autistic traits.
"Brain scan studies have also shown that mothers of autistic children often show patterns of brain activity more associated with men.
"...The rise in autism might be linked to the fact that it had become easier for systemizers to meet each other, with the advent of international conferences, greater job opportunities and more women working in these fields."

This is phenomenal.

It is thought that around one child in every 100 has a form of autism - the vast majority of those affected are boys.

That is an extremely high percentage of autistic children.

This whole discussion is fascinating. I'd like to know what triggers the extreme in those children in a line that has the trait.

It's so logical. It makes me think that maybe all disorders are connected to genes and traits in the line. Highly social people probably have their own afflictions. Social diseases.:-)
Really, though.

Heart disease, for example, runs in families. A social disorder to some extent.
Kidney disease is associated directly with relationships as is diabetes. All run in families.

Cancer might have more to do with spiritual relationship.

At work, we've been busy the past two days webcasting young high school age scientists presenting their projects for a competition. They seem quite sound of mind and body, and are optimistically convinced that what it takes to be a winner is effort, hard work, and good mentoring, rather than personal genius. :-)
