A Virgo Reminder

Last weekend Venus unobtrusively continued the retrograde in Virgo, a sign not known for dramatic overproduction. Venus is personal beauty and in Virgo, she can be decidedly lovely. I was reminded of this when a Virgo friend of mine commented on the well finished edge of my cut-off jeans, not a noticeable garment by any means. But this Virgo saw beauty in the perfected details, thus seeing value in the whole in an entirely different way than most. This makes me want to go into my sewing room and straighten up my fledgling self-made wardrobe. It encourages me to pay attention to my grooming, which can help as a performer, not to mention the details of my song arrangements, and the editing I know I must do.
Venus will be back in Leo soon until early October, when she will again go into Virgo joining Saturn, newly engaged in his 2 1/2 year journey through this busy sign. I admit to some trepidation when it comes to the Virgo criticism sometimes, but yesterday's reminder of the value of this close investigation of detail has aroused my enthusiasm. I have to say I suddenly like this person more. It can be calming, meditative, and fruitful to carefully craft in the Virgo style and I always associate these times with therapy, healing, and spiritual renewal in a very personal practical way. The sewing room is a wonderful place to retreat; cutting, stitching, and occasionally steaming alone in silence, sorting out the madness of everyday life and the myriad social conundrums. The hand stitching especially is soothing.

At this juncture I intend to welcome the Virgo years making the most of the opportunity to get straightened out, even if it requires some quiet moments for this overexcitable grand fire trine. Productivity could be a good thing, after all. Cleanliness and organization? Well, I'll have to have a talk with my Neptune in the 6th house. It's in Libra, so maybe a compromise can be arranged.

I'm looking forward to the Virgo season too. With my Virgo MC, I'm inclined towards that quiet attention to detail. It fits well with designing & making my hand-spun creations where time needs to flex & fall away for awhile. And yes, I'm ready for a break from the Fiery energy of this past while too!! :-D

With every change, it's always a welcomed contrast at first, and by the end, we're glad to be rid of it.

making my hand-spun creations where time needs to flex & fall away for awhile.

Well put. I think a lot of it is in the motion of the fingers, maybe connecting with time in a more methodical way. More synchronization.

Right now I still can't imagine doing these virgo rituals but I'm sure the desire will come.
From leo to virgo the relief from the fire comes, but with virgo, I think some isolation and loneliness eventually settle in, thus the relief of libra and more social engagement. It's all so beautifully orchestrated.

It will be very interesting when jupiter gets into capricorn with all of this. Lot's of change ahead.

It's happening.
Today I looked at my bathroom tile grout. Usually I say a quick "ich" to myself then go on to the next exciting event. There's always next lifetime. Today I almost grabbed a brush to clean it. I wonder if "almost" will become I "did".

jm, I wanted to wish you a happy birthday though I'm terribly late. I have a wonderful brother who is also a July 18. Today is my son's birthday and my house is full of boys. I've been planning an intense writing period come September, so I hope I'm able to settle into a virgo groove. Today I "almost" cleaned my desk...

Ha ha!! A house full of boys! I can't help but feel pleasure at the thought considering my affection for that part of the human species.

I am beyond happiness hearing about the writing ahead.
"Almost" is close enough in my book. Just one tiny step more. Into the unknown of order. And it just dawned on me. If I go through my piles of notes and song pieces that would be a perfect start. Will do. Thanks for the inspiration juju.

I actually think being a Virgo is not necessarily physical perfection and order, as much as it is a perfection of the mind, and the ideas. The purity of the mental process/ethics...Or maybe I'm just tying to deflect from the fact that I'm a Virgo slob with terrible typing skills and zero attention to details...;-)

Ha ha ha! I've seen that too elena. A lot with people who have multiple planets in Virgo and more with the Sun than the others.
What's aspecting your Sun and where is your Mercury?

A lot of virgos have suddenly shown up here.:-) But if they're like you maybe I won't have to straighten up after all. Just think about it!

LOL!! I've know lots of people with Moon in Virgo that are dreadful housekeepers but know exactly where everything is in that chaos! Aries Moon tends to be much neater oddly enough. And don't get me started on Sadge Moons . . . :-D I lived w/one & he always went on about wanting a clean, well-organized house but was the one who left the kitchen in a mess every time!!

So, yes, mental clarity & order are so Virgo!

That's me with Mars-Neptune in the 6th.

I've noticed huge inconsistencies astrologically when it comes to housekeeping. I've always associated hyper-cleanliness with guilt so maybe Saturn is involved.

"Want" is the operative word. When my two Sagde in-laws visited once I almost had to hire a professional cleaning service after they left. Even though they brought a plastic tarp to feed their baby on. Still food and drink went everywhere and it wasn't from the baby!

We're two messy Leos and a really messy Sadge. So you can imagine thte house. Though, because I'm always fighting the chaos its not as bad as it could be. I love the feeling of order -- I just never know how to keep anything that way. And I hate spending too much time on it. My new love is a robot vacuum which was actually quite inexpensive and goes underneath things like beds. I find it quite endearing and only wish there were a robot to pick up my clothes and file my papers.

But, I admit I am surprised that Virgos are messy too. The ones I've known fit my idea of Virgo neatness so well.

Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!
I need one of those! I'd name it and love it! OMG, how funny.

Most fit the sign characteristics in some ways, but sometimes if things are out of wack, they'll do the opposite. So Virgo being not-Virgo is like Pisces, and you know what they're like.

Lots of other parts of the personality, too, that can dominate.

You described your robot so well. Can't wait til the writing really gets going. And jeeziss, 2 Leos and 1 Sadge. Sounds like fun. No need to clean.

Cleaning is for the birds!
No. Wait a minute. Birds are the messiest of all.

I had a coworker with Sun and Venus in Virgo, and with Mercury conjunct to Uranus and to Pluto, all in Virgo. He was a man ahead of his time, always looking to find a shortcut, a better process, or just to offer a better business deal or a new kind of service. He had a pattern of coming up with ideas that nobody would get, and then five years later they would end up doing exactly what he'd said, but by that time he'd moved on to another job.

His desk was chaos exemplified.

One day the chaos had grown to spread over three adjacent desks. It was lunch time, and he started picking up one piece of paper at a time, digging through the mess, starting at the nearest edge.

I watched him with amusement for about twenty seconds. I was convinced that he was searching for the take-out menu.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Looking for the take-out menu," he replied.

"Do...you...mean...THAT?" I said, pointing at the take-out menu, which was lying at the edge of the desk, directly in front of his stomach.

LOL! I like him.

I've seen this often with any sign. When there's a stellium they will do the opposite. We'll have to see how meristem is with her Virgo stellium.

One theory says that if there are 0-1 planets in an element, a person will overcompensate. And if there are many, they will cultivate other traits. I've noticed this a lot especially with Virgos. I know many messy ones. But they still notice details and their thinking is organized, like this fellow and elena.

Sometimes neatness actually indictates a chaotic mind trying to find order.

Well, yes, Roomba, that's the robot, has become kind of a pet, and I really like to let him go around munching up dust. I'm afraid this baffles the visiting Germans - in part because his method of cleaning appears to be very erratic -- he goes here and then spins and goes there -- but he has his own logic and if you give him time he picks up everything in a room (without falling down stairs!). The Germans I'm sure would rather just grab a regular vacuum and get the job done, whereas I like to sit and drink coffee and admire him and feel amazed that I have such a thing in my life.

And now I will be on the lookout for chaotic virgos. I have virgo sister and she is the wonderful kind who attends to all the necessary details that everyone else misses. Letters from her are full marvels that anyone else would be too lazy to note, and hiking with her is a pleasure because she knows all the plants and animal tracks and birds there are. My mind is very vague and misty next to hers.

Heheh! He was charming, with Libra rising and the Moon in Leo. Dressed well, presented well, spoke well, excellent manners. Would make a good salesman or customer service rep. He said he liked making his own furniture.

Curiously, he had a slight tendency to malapropisms, such as "cosmetology" when he meant to say "cosmology", or "neutral networks" when he meant "neural networks". I suspected he had a learning disabiity; he had a hard time writing.

I used to think I could almost see the gears turning in his head.

His father was a chemist at the Fashion Institute of Technology, so he went to school there and studied the textiles industry. But later he became a businessman.

Speaking of the ruling planet Mercury, I just read today that the Latin root merc means "to trade". Merchandise, mercenary, merchant, market.

Ah yes, Virgo... a sign I generally don't encounter nearly as much as I'd like to in my life. ;-) I don't have any major planets or asteroids there natally (most of my third house, cusp of fourth), so the only time it really gets highlighted is when a Virgo does show up. And she's usually got her natal Sun or Moon around 5 to 7 degrees trining my Sun AND Moon. Instant Fireworks! It almost never fails.

Best example I can think of is the seemingly "chance" encounter late one night at a restaurant. (More like fate I think, Juno was nearing a conjunction with my Vertex in early Sag.) She knew me from before (we barely knew each other then), but calls me out LOUD by my first AND last name. We must have talked 30 minutes. Maybe longer, but it didn't seem that way. I was tired before that conversation, but felt pretty energized afterwards. Sun at 5-6 degrees Virgo, Scorpio Moon (and from what I can tell, Libra ASC). A stunning beauty, as much so as her wit was as sharp as a razor.

Never forgot her, did I. That was a couple of years ago. I'm still kicking myself for not asking her out.

And it feels utterly wonderful and calming to have a clean home. I've got a Virgo ascendant on my solar return chart this year so I think it's going to be a year of tending to seemingly mundane details.

LOL neo! That ol' SN in Aries! The ideal is to take the boldness of Aries into pursuit of your dream relationship.:-)

Triathlons!!! I've been wanting to do one forever, eme, but I hate biking. Congratulations. This is good. I heard about one in New England that has canoeing instead of biking and that sounds much better. I love the running and swimming. I still might get there. I expect to be runnung up to my 90's.

I think it's going to be a year of tending to seemingly mundane details.

I think so too. straightening up our lives in many ways. I cleaned mirrors the other day and that one is the best.

Elena, that's it! Neptune square the Virgo Sun and asc. Yeah, I consider the 5th house to be a messy one, the creative process in action.

I still think Saturn might be the neatnik.
I think for some, creating order is the ticket, and for others, allowing chaos brings growth. I tend to believe I might should try the order approach and see what happens!

If any of you want to drop off your birth info I can get you into the chart room. That one's pretty organized.:-)

God, it's 95 degrees outside and my airhead renter is in la-la land, yakking on the phone with the door open, letting all the heat and humidity indoors. This, after I've bitched him out for doing it once already.

Let's see... He's a Virgo rising, with the Moon at 0 Gem and Venus at 1 Gem.

This, after I've bitched him out for doing it once already.

Well, there's always the NN in Capricorn which gets the thing done through perfect administration and logic. You could draw a graph of heat loss for him and present it to him with the suggestion for how it can be prevented.:-)

Moon-Venus might respond to the kind approach if that's possible. Or if that fails, some punishment such as work details could be threatened. He being required to hose you down with cool water, for example:-)

But bitching in 95 degree heat sounds pretty normal to me. Along with all your relationship karma. Looks like you're in for it joe!

OK, I'll spill:
Virgo Sun + Aries Moon (sorry Neith)= slob in this girl.

I love the idea and brief existence of neatness and order in my life and surroundings, but they usually only exist in the downtimes between growth spurts and fecund creative periods.
And I know where everything is in my piles of papers and books, and treasures on my desk, though I'm even more slack about that now these days.
Tidying takes so much time and forget about dusting! And dusting -don't get me started- is only good for like one day before it reappears! How fruitless is that? Why bother?

(This must make me sound really gross.)

I talked to my hyper neat friend -whose apartment brings me so much peace with it's homey order- about my inability to maintain and she suggested that its a form of rebelliousness. For many personal reasons, that made sense to me..

My brother has a Venus in Scorpio and he's not always in control of his appetites. Once when visiting us in santa Fe, he got into the freezer and ate my man's ice cream; the entire half gallon.

My guy had a 29 degree Libra Moon. He said nothing. The next day he purchased another half gallon and put it in the freezer and labeled it "ocean perch".

I just had to join in the Virgo discussion, being as I am a Virgo rising, and a lover of clean, well-organized spaces.

Cluttered, messy environments drive me batty, as does an over-accumulation of possessions and *stuff*. I try to put this idea across to my Sag mother and Taurus stepdad (both Leo rising) but they don't get it.

If I could live in a bare-bones, stripped-down Zen house with plenty of light, I would be in heaven. If I could have only as many possessions as a (small) suitcase would hold, so much the better.

Which is not to say that I am super-neat - though pretty darn neat. And I find mundane, household tasks often rather boring (albeit necessary) given my Aquarius Mars and Mercury in the 6H.

But Virgo rising probably accounts for my being fastidious, methodical, practical, and detail-oriented.

Can we say MASSIVE over-compensation for my Pisces Sun ;)?

I often express the same desire. Then why don't we?
Why do we say, "if only I could"?

I guess because I also love texture and color and stimulation for the eyes, flea market treasures, etc...
And I'm so sentimental. Having moved around so much, I keep objects for a sense of continuity (though finally living in one place for more than 3 years has curbed that somewhat).

What is it in you, Ninth, that keeps you from living in a zen-like space?

{italic} What is it in you, Ninth, that keeps you from living in a zen-like space? {/italic}

Part of it is that I'm currently living back with my parents, and that means slowly clearing out my childhood things to make room for my adult possessions. I emphasise the *slowly* given my dislike of mundane tasks. But it's a great sense of achievement as I reclaim space, little-by-little.

This project concerns my bedroom, since the rest of the house is given over to my parents' devotion to accummulating beautiful (if unecessary, in my opinion) things.

The other part of the answer is that my girlfriend likes *stuff* far more than me. She is currently back in the States, but when we are once more living together, I will undoubtedly be back to sharing space with all the things she deems useful and helpful.

She's an uber-efficient Venus in Virgo (Libra Sun), so I can't really fault her for having impractical tastes.

Still... maybe one day I'll be rich enough to rent my own office, where there will be little, oh so little, taking up space. ;)

Incidentally, I can totally understand falling prey to the allure of beautiful things. I love, love, love visually-pleasing things; just rarely wish to possess them. Am content to see, appreciate, and move on.

I love this conversation about clutter and things. I also have fantasies about a Zenlike environment and I wonder what my craving for material busyness around me is about.

Do you feel comfortable with bare walls, ninth?

What is it in you, Ninth, that keeps you from living in a zen-like space?

I think it might be connected to the 29 degree Capricorn Moon and the austerity there. Maybe a desire to get to the inner chaos and creativity so that the outer clutter is a distraction. And the urge to get to the bones of the creative self might see some of the stuff everywhere as nonsense. Maybe an urge to clear the decks and put the real goods out there.

I once lived in an ashram in a small bare room, sleeping on the hard floor, with no possessions. I started my musical life in that environment. Played guitar and sang all the time. Completely immersed with no thought of past, future, or accumulation. I was quite young, though.

It often seems to be the sequence. Accumulation with age. It amazes me when those who aren't attached can leave everything when they move.

With you, ninth, the ruler of your Virgo, Mercury is in Aquarius in the 6th, so that could be part of the nonattachment.

It's always struck me how celebrities come to my town for performances and all they do is shop. That kind of accumulation with multiple houses is madness it seems. Driven by uncontrolled impulses that worsen as time goes on. The more they have.

Curiously, I stopped shopping almost entirely when I started RU. Just necessities now.
